I know!
Drink beer AND get ahead on homework!
On second thought, maybe not.
When I was in college in my early twenties, the school I went to had a bar on campus. It was a thing of glory even though there was a three drink limit and only beer was served. One quarter I took to having the limit in the form of three 16 ounce drafts before a required general education class on world religions. It made the class a lot more interesting. I got a 'C' in the class and it's the only college course in which I've gotten less than a 'B'.

(12,132 posts)but y'all have convinced me to get up and go get a beer. I'm usually pretty lazy at 3am but the kitchen is pretty close. I think there's a Fat Tire amber ale in there...

(6,154 posts)Good job pushing ahead with doing both your job AND school. That's not easy. I'm in between semesters here, have no job, and I'm not going shit all Though I guess working on my emotional health isn't nothing.
I do fear a bit what may happen when school does start up again. Can I get back in that groove? We will see.

(6,154 posts)Right back at you with your situation. I have faith that you will get out of your current job and into something much more fulfilling.
The shift in mood is a big one though from having fun in the summer (though my having fun is also to a large degree building up a life right now) to hunkering down and hitting the books. I mean I usually do very well academically when I've been able to hack it. It's the emotional side I've had trouble with. But like I said thanks!

(10,418 posts)When you get back to school you'll be feeling refreshed from your summer vacation and getting back to work might not seem so daunting. You may actually start to enjoy school with your new found optimism. But if you ever feel like dropping out again, talk to me before you do it and talk to a counselor at school.
I'm telling you, man. I know what the blue collar world is like. You'll want to avoid it if you can. Most of the people I've run across hate what they're doing, they don't make enough money to live happily, and they are busting their bodies on their way to an early grave. If you can see a way out of that, I'd take it.

(6,154 posts)I can use the encouragement. And doubly thanks for the offer of lending an ear should I need it. Careful what you wish for, I might just contact you some time
It's interesting I happily worked retail jobs for about 5+ years and felt at times I wouldn't mind doing that or a blue collar job. But I was lucky in that I had good bosses and friendly fellow employees. My mother helped me land the 711 assistant manager gig and I know from years of her stories how hellish that job can be, despite my time turning out well. I've seen people treated pretty shitily and witnessed them throw their lives away. Some time around the 4th or 5th year then working at my 2nd retail job I realised my streak of good luck wouldn't last and I'd end up hating myself if I made a real career of this. So yes I don't want to end up in one of those jobs, though I've meet a lot of good people and had good experiences along the way. It's been largely a positive life lesson.

(10,418 posts)When I write for entertainment (of myself and others) I've found that a few drinks can make the words flow better. It just loosens me up and puts me in a frame of mind that's more conducive to sociability, which is what we're all about here in the lounge. But if I'm writing for school I'm all business. I suppose it might be different if I were taking creative writing classes.
