find out as much as you can about your potential employer -
Company Profile could help a lot within your interview, knowing some of their stats and so on.
Learn their "power phrases" from the company profile , but only use one or two if the opportunity arises during the interview.
Answer questions briefly but directly.
Wait to see if they ask you "do you have any questions?"
Not wise to interrupt their questionnaire.
Oh - before I go on - I took a 4-week course on interview skills when I was unemployed decades ago -
During training, we had mock interviews, videotaped so we could see our errors/habits.
Guess who was top of the class - yep, l'il ole CC!
Onward -
dress appropriately for the position you are applying for -
One does not wear a three piece suit for an interview for a construction job.
Do not wear perfumes or use fragranced soap - in some places it's even against company policy.
Be confident, but not unwilling to admit you are nervous - if you are.
Dunno if you smoke or not, but if they offer you one, refuse politely.
Don't chew gum - that's a definite no-no.
Many ask a question I always had a hard time deciding how to answer "what is your worst quality"?
My answer? - "Taking my work home with me" - which is true - I would ponder my performance - assess it, and figure out how to improve it.
Recently even got asked "ever done drugs"? - dunno if they are allowed to ask that now, but my answer?
"yep - had fun with the weed thing up to about '76."
not a total lie - still have fun with it occasionally
best wishes for Monday

(6,154 posts)I went through a couple of courses at BCIT (technical university I'm at) where they did interview skills. Basically the same items you went over. Good stuff to remember, but when it comes time to do the interview itself your mind sometimes goes blank and you forget how to act , so it's good to practice!
