I just dozed off,

(in a a bit of drunken stupor)(after reading Steinbeck) and dreamed of myself collecting samples from intertidal pools, and trying to rationale and integrate my experience of collecting these samples with the daily fury, function and sexual lustiness of said creatures, while acknowledging that our very presence changes their actions. It changed their future, if even for only a blip.

But it did not change them. R.D. Lang intruded and explained that no matter how much we tried to identify with the motives of these encrustations, we'll never 'experience' their experience. That belongs to them, and will forever remain a mystery to us.

Then I woke up. And grabbed another beer. More reading tomorrow, and we'll see where this goes.

Especially Steinbeck. One my all time favorites. I lived in the Monterey Bay Area for five years, and read all of his works while I was there. It was really kind of magical to read those stories and know exactly what the spots he wrote about looked like.
