The trip log is here: http://www.tnttt.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=56714.
For anyone interested in how we built the trailer, the build journal is here: http://www.tnttt.com/viewtopic.php?f=50&t=47926. It was a long project, but it's turning out pretty well. The trailer looks totally retro, but it's really functional.
Anyway, this is how I'm spending my summer vacation.

(289 posts)and build this for myself. Do you have fabrication experience?

(36,281 posts)Had to learn welding, wood working, etc. Took two years of weekends, evenings, and vacations to build, mostly because I had to make lots of learning mistakes along the way. It's withstood off road travel on this trip though, so we haven't been able to break it yet!

(3,247 posts)August seems like a time people from North Texas would go to northern California, not vice versa, but it's a round trip full of incredible scenery any time of year, and you'll get progressively cooler on the way back home.

at my favorite camping spot in the bush (think private)
And below,
at the same camping spot
you can see the back of my camper up on the hill
OH - by the way, I created that beach -
was only a 2 foot wide mud shore when I discovered it
and I now live only 45 mnutes away from the same spot
Camper died,
but the truck still lives!
and
this is a picture from afar at the same spot

(28,394 posts)Beautiful scenery, too. Where are those amazing rocks?

(36,281 posts)I'm trying to remember the route number, it's state Rt. 120 I think, from Mono Craters to Benton, CA. The other end of the loop comes back to Rt 395 near Mammoth. Those are the White Mountains in the background, where the oldest known bristlecone pines grow way up on the high dolomite ridges.
One of our favorite camps is nearby on public land, I presume BLM land but maybe national forest. Anyway, it has a clear view of the White Mtns and the sunsets are absolutely gorgeous. Whenever we camp there, we face the chairs toward the White Mtns and pour a glass of wine to watch the show at sunset.

No, wasn't near that fancy -
But he built cabinets on the sides over the wheel-wells for extra storage,
and in the rear, he made a section that would fold up and VOILA!
A mini-kitchen so to speak.
There was the Coleman stove, cutlery, dishes, canned and dried food,
so Mom could feed all us 4 kids and the dog anywhere we parked along the way.
It's the fold-up in the back that jogged me ole memories.
I don't think I have say ENJOY!
carry on - well done
