The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsIt's August in Austin
The 5 day forecast: 103°, 104°, 106°, 104° and a cool day only 102°
And it's been getting about a degree warmer than the forecasts.
As the man said "Is this Hell, or TX?"

Clear skies, nice breeze blowing through the windows, and a comfortable 75 degrees.
Bugs are gone, birds a singing . . . . .
and so on.
I've been to Texas, have to drag me with a chain to get me back there.
Yup - our winters can be brutal, but if you are prepared, not a problem.
It is easier to warm up, than to cool down.
35 below? put on more clothes.
100 above - can only take off so much .. .
More people die, especially the elderly, in heat waves than they do in cold snaps.
I would not trade my tiny property for the whole of Texas.

(41,694 posts)all it takes to beat the heat is shade and water. Why do you think siestas in the afternoon were invented.
cold makes my bones hurt.

I cannot take the heat the way I used to, never could take too much,
that's why when I was looking in the bush for camping spots it was always beside a swimming hole.
I'd chore around till I overheated then dive in
Here's my favorite, less than an hour away from where I live now
discovered that spot in 1990 - never ever saw anyone else camp in there - used aerial photo maps to find it, an old logging road to a long gone trappers camp. That's the back of my camper you see on the top of the ravine.
I prefer the cold to the heat now - got wood heat and lots of wood, so same thing only backwards, work out til I start getting cool, then come in and toasty up beside the wood stove.
Heat just wipes me out now - working for very long in the heat, no can do anymore - wipes me out.
So, ergo

I lived in S. Texas for years. It wasn't as hot on the coast, but it was hot enough.
