Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsTomorrow I leave on a 3 day cruise to the bahamas
it will be our first cruise and I'm excited. (that's why we went small this time. Our son and DiL are going too and they've been on several and promise we'll have a good time)
I was, however, disappointed to hear that, while Cuban cigars are not illegal in the Bahamas, they are also not likely to be real. I'm not experienced enough to spot fakes so I have to go with the prevailing opinion (on some cigar fora) that about 90% of what you see there is counterfeit. And the same for most any premium cigar whether Cuban or not. I can't even trust a good ol' Arturo Fuente to be real.
Oh well - my first time in a country not attached to the USA and my first time on a big boat so I won't let a little thing like that get me down. I plan to drink enough that I probably wouldn't notice or appreciate a good cigar anyway.
Anyone else been there? I think our dock is in Freeport...anything I should try very hard not to miss on our one full day there? We aren't signing up for any of those ridiculously priced excursions...but I figured we should still try to roam around the islands a bit. not sure how far we can get in a day.

(10,237 posts)remember to ease your way into the drinking while afloat because the food should be plentiful and tasty .I have always heard that most "Cuban" cigars are not from Cuba but can be superb especially with some salt air and a fine view . We expect pictures too.

Been on cruises to Freeport, the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.

(12,132 posts)got my batteries charging now and bought a little adapter for on-board (ship uses 220v European plugs) just in case. Bringing my DSLR and a little point and shoot and my phone-cam.
Turning my phone to airplane mode for angry birds and phone cam only - ship-board data rates are just stupid huge.
And I don't even know where to start on the eating - been looking at the menus and dining rooms/cafe things for the last week...taking fat pants for the last day - I'll need 'em by then...
