I always feel like a kid around my parents

No matter how old I get. Today we are in Alabama for my grandmothers funeral. I drove down from North Carolina (13 hours). My dad had made hotel
reservations for everyone. I didn't find out until we all got back to the hotel that I was supposed to share their room. First of all, who does this? And secondly,
if he had asked, I would have made my own arrangements. I did tell him that I preferred to have a room to myself, so I do and I will pay him back if he wants.
It's just that this is going to be stressful enough without any place for me to unwind.

And I think you have every right to want your own space in the midst of everything that's going on.

But it didn't even occur to me. I wouldn't have minded sharing with my sister, but three in a room is a little crowded.

I'm fucking 31! Bad habit of mine and related to my emotional stunted development I guess. Some of it may come from being 1/2 Chinese but my father is the white side of the family.

I was in my 30's and we'd have serious political and religious discussions. We went out together a lot. The thing is, she didn't treat me like I was a kid so I never had to feel like a kid around her. She's been gone for seven years now and I still miss my friend every day.

Of course, I always was. I've been parenting my parent my whole life.

With my own adult sons, I'm happy to let them take charge most of the time. It's a blessed relief from that responsibility.
