It was quite a scare, but all seems well now. The ER PA said it was a bad attack of GERD. (I didn't know that gave you headaches and dizziness, but what do I know?) She still has a nasty headache but attributes it to hunger; she's just eaten for the first time in almost 24 hours. She's actually working right now, saying she'll log off after she finishes something from yesterday. We'll see.
Thank you to everyone who sent out good vibes and wishes and prayers last night (whether you posted in the thread or not). DU is a community of friends and it's comforting to know one can come here for support.

(6,581 posts)Don't want to scare you, glad she is feeling better.
But ... we took my mother in the ER three times for bad upper GI pain, dizzyness, etc. Or, at least we thought it was GI pain. So did they at the ER. It was actually very clogged coronary arteries, and she was having mild heart attacks. But, they gave her antacids, prilosec, and sent her home after the pains eased. On the 4th visit in about 2 months, they finally figured it out and rushed her into surgery for stents.
So, don't take at face value it is just GERD.

Good Luck, Bertha. I know you are worried and concerned.
I hope it is nothing serious.

(6,011 posts)My son was playing a video game with his friend who had spent the day being a nurse to his girlfriend, who had gone to the emergency room at 3:00 am with a 104º fever and muscle spasms, so we were also worrying about her. I heard she was okay, so now I can be relieved x2!
One time I took a handful of vitamin supplements and a few minutes later sat on the toilet feeling as though I could die- my stomach seemed to be in a big knot and I got shaky and clammy- I had never felt so weird; I tried to breathe slowly but was considering trying to yell for my friend who lived upstairs in the house. After a few minutes I started feeling better instead of worse. I think gastric distress can manifest itself in many ways, but I'd say headaches more often come from being dehydrated.

(18,470 posts)Even if covered by insurance, top dollar was paid for that visit. Most folks that pay a premium for professional advice take it. The ER probably recommended follow-up. Do what you can to get her in, even if just to your family doc.
