Woke up to see a good friend naked

I woke up, grabbed my phoen while still in bed, and went onto facebook to see if my cousin responded to my message about some vacation plans. The first post that came up was posted 2 minutes prior and was a picture of a good friend totally naked is a very explicit pose. She is not the type to do this so I sent her a text asking her if she meant to do it and if she knew facebook had a no nudity policy. Seconds after I hit send she called me begging me to talk her through deleting the photo. She claimed she meant to facebook IM it to her boyfriend and somehow posted it on her wall. I walked her through it, but while we were on the phone she got about a dozen likes and several funny comments. She sounded pretty mortified on the phone. I will never understand how accidents like this can happen, but I am glad I helped her take it down. I usually see the man she is dating during the day, so I can't wait for that awkwardness.

When we first investigated this phenomenon in 2009, we discovered that photos "deleted" from Facebook seemingly never go away if you have a direct link to the image file on Facebook's servers. Users who might have had second thoughts about posting a photo—whether it was because they didn't want retaliation from an employer, wanted to avoid family drama, or uploaded a photo of a friend without their permission—could certainly remove the image from Facebook's main user interface, but as long as someone had a direct link to the .jpg file in question, the photo would remain accessible for an indefinite amount of time. When we asked Facebook about it, we were told that the company was "working with our content delivery network (CDN) partner to significantly reduce the amount of time that backup copies persist."

that the link to the jpg is still there. I did not save it it look at the properties, so I have no idea how I would even check. I do know someone I suspect saved it, so I might start there. thanks.

Which is why, I've posted here once before that if ever you take a photo, always take it without your face or any identifying features such as scars and tattoos.

I wish her luck in being able to take all of that down.

So glad I don't have FB.

including e-mails, Facebook, and all other social media, including texting, are like sending postcards through the mail, if those postcards were put a copying machines at several points along the route to the recipient's mail box.

Your friend's nude photo is out there somewhere and could reappear at any time.
