for me it's not having to wear pants when i go out on our patio. it's a garden level with four-foot high concrete walls and enough coverage from the next door neighbors that i don't even bother.
i hate wearing pants.

(22,000 posts)I live in a large apartment complex (think 13 story cement block building) surrounded by other buildings that are 13-15 stories. If I don't close my curtains when I take my clothes off for a shower there's no telling how many people could see me.

(6,581 posts)That is about as summer as it gets. I would say cycling since it's a true passion now, but it's pretty complicated, takes me about half an hour at a minimum to get ready to go out, between bike maintenance, getting dressed fir it, and gathering needed gear and supplies.
fizzgig
(24,146 posts)but i have a black thumb, so i don't see the point in spending money on it.
i find it pretty relaxing to ride my bike, but i'm a lazy asshole and haven't ridden this summer.

(9,901 posts)Grooving on the birds, fish, seals and sea lions, dolphins, even the occasional shore hugging whale.
On top of that, despite all the misses, wipe outs, and exhausting paddle outs, everything comes together and you find yourself sliding down the face of a wave. No motor, the only sound is your board slapping against the water, and that little kid inside squealing "wieeeeeeeee".
Nothing else like it.

(5,364 posts)I work outside and during the summer months I arrive home feeling clammy, dirty and wound up. After a showering, a nice pleasant feeling is gained via some red wine and perhaps a snack while I surf the net. I just can't see how some of my coworkers can go home and go straight to bed, but many say they do.
On my days off there's always yard work and other house related chores outdoors to do, mostly in sweltering heat/humidity. Few things feel better to me than the feeling of getting it all done, coming indoors to a 72 degree house, showering, and then relaxing with a book and a before dinner tumbler of whiskey, with the knowledge of a job well done. It's cheap euphoria. I feel bad for my friends with kids that have to do the same thing, but when they're done they have to deal with 3 ring circus and a beehive of calamity and activity. If I had to endure that I'd quite literally go insane within a week.
fizzgig
(24,146 posts)i usually don't get home until at least 1030, so it's cooled off from the heat and it's just a glorious feeling, that's the no pants time

(46,179 posts)Staying at home for days in a row with the phone turned off.
Sitting on the deck and watching the stars.
Dawn in the barn: crisp, fresh, and peaceful, with horses munching and swishing tails.
A good book.
And, while it may not rank up with the best, I can go all the way to the barn without pants if I feel like it. I'm often in nothing but an old night shirt on those early morning trips. I can add few neighbors and wide spaces to my list of simple pleasures.

(17,671 posts)I heat with wood. Sometimes when I come in at night and the house is cold, I light a fire and pour a single shot of tequila and add a bit of tabasco. I sit in front of the fire and wait for my feet to start to get just right toasty warm, then drink the tequila. It's sort of a redneck tea ceremony.

(246 posts)'Tis the gift to be simple, 'tis the gift to be free
'Tis the gift to come down where we ought to be,
And when we find ourselves in the place just right,
'Twill be in the valley of love and delight.
When true simplicity is gain'd,
To bow and to bend we shan't be asham'd,
To turn, turn will be our delight,
Till by turning, turning we come 'round right.
