in Shakespeare's day there were no webmasters.
Webmasters today are infinitely better versed at confusing things, slowing them down, and generally fucking things up more than lawyers had ever been or ever will be.
Lawyers at least have clients who will presumably benefit from their work, webmasters have clients who get no benefit under any circumstances. Nor does anyone who works for or communicates with, or conducts any sort of business with said clients.
Why is it necessary for sites to take a full minute to load and then links not work, frames fall apart, the site doesn't scroll properly, and after all that, when the screen finally stabilizes, it's not where you want to be?
Case in point-- why did Cablevision do away with a perfectly functional channel guide and replace it something that not only gives less information in twice the time as the old one, but now only works at all on one of the three browsers I use? And even then is unstable enough to rebuild the page when I try to scroll down the list?
Huffpo and the fun gossip sites? How can you read the shit posted when the screen takes forever to draw and then freezes?
I'm talking about two new Win8 computers with multicore processors and other state of the art crap. And it's not Win8-- my old XP and less old Win7 boxes have the same problems.
I get nothing out of this that plain ol' HTLM 4 won't give me with a few scripts here and there. It's all for Google to track my browsing and make it easier to try to sell me stuff and geeks in the back room showing off. I'll take the NSA over Google, Oracle, and the rest of the corporate spies-- they don't get in my way when I'm just trying to click on a link.
