(110,159 posts)washington, into the more desert like vast emptiness, i got an education and TOO long conversation about zombies, the different zombies, what to do with a zombie attack, and how different zombies matter on what we would do and on and on and on.... thru the barren lands, from my two boys. i was laughing my ass off and thinking about you thru out.

(8,217 posts)Large Chains:
-Popeyes Mild - I like spiciness but for some reason the spicy version makes it taste a bit dry. So I tend to just add hot sauce. There are days that I crave KFC Original Recipe though.
Mom&Pop Places:
-Red Rooster - Damascus MD :: The meals come with coleslaw, fries and a potato roll. They are so balanced well together it is just awesome. Add a True Cherry Coke in the mix, where it is coke + grenadine, and I am just floored.
Peruvian Chicken:
-There is this one place in Wheaton, MD that used to be a Front for illegal activities, but their chicken is just plain awesome and such a good deal too, that it survived raids and stuff. They changed their name multiple times so I have no idea what they are called now.
Korean Fried Chicken:
-BonChon, crispier than any other chicken out there. There is some sort of spiciness to it as well. You have to try it at least once.
There are other categories such as "Wings Place", Carribean, Jerk, African and others. Chicken is just plain awesome.

(39,961 posts)Tempura batter is so puffy and delicious due to the seltzer that bubbles up in the batter. All of those sound amazing, though!
Xyzse
(8,217 posts)Makes it crunchier and delicious...
Oh god, I have to go there soon.
They season it after it was fried:
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/02/07/dining/07fried.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0
that looks delicious!
They take a long time to cook, but it is worth it.
Aerows
(39,961 posts)If you have a location near you.
Otherwise, just look up "Korean Fried Chicken".
Delicious stuff.
Then get back to me and tell me how it went. I am curious now.
I'll try to find one, because that sounds heavenly. I think I'll have to hit NOLA or somewhere less in the sticks, though, to enjoy said chicken.
kwassa
(23,340 posts)but I had the spicy chicken bowl one time and the seafood bimimbap the other time. No fried chicken.

(8,217 posts)The one in Rockville, a few in VA and one in NY.
To tell the truth, I am not sure which place I liked best.
Cool, you're close by.

(8,217 posts)Thank you for doing this topic.
I love food. I get passionate.
Fried Chicken is pretty much able to be done a thousand ways, but there seems to be favorites.
There is a place in DC that I haven't been to yet. Been itching to go, but just never seem to get to it. It is soul food fried chicken.
I have to try it.
nolabear
(41,938 posts)I don't know where #1 was nor did I ever go there myself but I understand their $50 box of wings was AWESOME.
Aerows
(39,961 posts)inside?
nolabear
(41,938 posts)In a box of wings?
Don't people on heroin not eat? It seems like an even greater waste of good food to have people to heroin-ed up to eat in . Not that I go looking for drugs period...
Somehow chicken places used as a front are amazing.
I don't know what they put in them chicken.
RavensChick
(3,123 posts)but I only get Popeyes mild because the spicy is too greasy for me (the mild is less greasy). I only get KFC original when I have a SERIOUS hankering, and that's been rare for me these days.
As for the other places, there's a place in New Carrollton, MD called King Pollo, and while I get their awesome fried chicken on occasion, their rotisserie chicken is OFF THE CHAIN delicious!!!! Trust me, short of going to a Chinese carry out or a soul food joint I love fried chicken wherever and whenever I can!
Just try to avoid Bojangles because their chicken almost has no flavor, but their breakfast sandwiches are very good.
Aerows
(39,961 posts)Rotisserie chicken
Xyzse
(8,217 posts)You're also close by!
Maybe we could meet up and do a chicken run!
I mean, the place in Wheaton which used to be a front for illegal things is the Peruvian Chicken that I stack every one else against.
There was this one place that closed down which was awesome. It was a Rotisserie chicken Chinese style. They gave these tangy sweet sauces too. I was so sad when they closed down.
And yes, I agree with you in regards to Popeyes Mild being less greasy.
I haven't found a bojangles close by, other than heading further down south.
I like it.
I wish I could come but I'm too far away
nolabear
(41,938 posts)Of course we have Ezells, supposedly the best in the country, but I manage to stay away somehow. And there's only one of them. I think.
Aerows
(39,961 posts)are neck and neck. Nobody likes Church's? That's my father's favorite, that and the honey butter biscuits.
Personally, I detest Church's, but I figured somebody would like them.
RavensChick
(3,123 posts)but I only get that when I'm visiting family in GA. I love their sides but the chicken itself is overkill on the breading.
Aerows
(39,961 posts)I guess it's all to the taste, which is why I made the poll. I'm sure somebody out there likes Church's chicken and will finally admit it, because they are still in business LOL.

(39,961 posts)I'm always on the lookout for good fried chicken.
Aerows
(39,961 posts)Damn, that looks like good chicken. Is it dunked in buttermilk like KFC?
KamaAina
(78,249 posts)Outstanding fried chicken is as close as the nearest Zippy's. And that's never more than a mile or two, until you get far out into the country.
Zippy's is also a sort of culinary melting pot where you can accompany your yardbird with, for instance, saimin (Japanese-style noodle soup) -- all in an atmosphere copied perfectly from any number of chain restaurants on the mainland such as Denny's!
that sounds awesome!
surrealAmerican
(11,358 posts)... with a few locations in and around Chicago, is pretty good. I've heard good things about Popeye's, but they don't have a location close to me, so I've not tried them yet.
Amerigo Vespucci
(30,885 posts)One of a few places I actually MISS since moving here, since the closest one is 65 miles away.
It's grilled, not fried, but I went by your thread title when I voted, not your follow up "What is your favorite fried chicken? " question.
They would regularly send coupons in the mail for three-piece dinners and such at a discount, but when I didn;t have coupons, my go-to meal was always one of their burritos.

(54,256 posts)Just like granny used to make.
Aerows
(39,961 posts)is awesome, but I have to admit, the best part about going to Popeye's is their red beans and rice. It's fantastic, and a meal in itself. I usually get just a large RB&R, and I'm set. It's not that their chicken isn't good, it's that the red beans are that great.
Mondays are always a great day in New Orleans and the surrounding area .
Kali
(55,004 posts)OMG!!! I only tried Popeye's for the first time last January. MFM was raving about the red beans and rice so I tried it last week when I was up in Tempe. freaking YUM and I do love me some beans of most types. those were GREAT!!
their chicken is hard to beat too! we have a local chain called Lucky Wishbone in Tucson that is pretty good - they also do shrimp and steak fingers (kids call them dog turds) that come with the same red cocktail sauce as the shrimp - oh man I am getting hungry for something FRIED. You bastid!
Aerows
(39,961 posts)I grew up in New Orleans, so I know what good red beans taste like. Theirs are good.
Kali
(55,004 posts)I would be broke and even fatter than I am now. DAMN good chicken and the red beans and rice are a new "MUST EAT" when I go to Tempe or maybe even Tucson, now!

(10,237 posts)for fast food it's real food .
Aerows
(39,961 posts)is the real thing, cher. I can tell you that, since I'm from New Orleans. It's a meal in itself, and there is precious little that is better than that.

(39,961 posts)I want to know WHY you love it best. For me, it is dunking it in buttermilk.
Lars39
(26,107 posts)Not greasy, spices, especially salt, don't overwhelm the taste of the chicken, and the chicken is tender.
Aerows
(39,961 posts)Next time I'm in the Windy City, I'll try it. I did Chicago hot dogs the last time I was there (it was for work, buy hey, I play tourist every chance I get). I road up to the top of the Sears tower and I must admit, I was * this * close to having a panic attack/claustrophobia in the express elevator to the top, but it was worth it.
Wonderful view
EDIT: Why the fuck I said the empire state building was a brain fart. Sears tower, I meant.
Lars39
(26,107 posts)Been once, that was enough.
Aerows
(39,961 posts)I have no freaking idea why I typed Empire State building instead of Sears tower. But that's where I went when I was in Chicago LOL. The elevator scared the shit out of me because there were like 30 people in it. Once I got to the observatory, though, it was worth it

(32,075 posts)Haven't had it in over 30 years. I always really liked their cole slaw, too. They used a dressing that's similar to French dressing. Don't know if they still do that, or if they've switched to a mayonnaise-based one, like everyone else. I'm not generally a fan of liver, but I make an exception for Brown's chicken livers.
Lars39
(26,107 posts)I would have liked to try the original though, sounds good.

(118,503 posts)dirty bird and it is a sex act too. I heard both as nicknames for KFC from a friend. I've been saying it for years. Oh .... my....god.... I'm so naïve
Aerows
(39,961 posts)known slang terms for sex acts. Proclaims ignorance, but post was full of asterisks.
LOTS of asterisks. LOTS and LOTS of asterisks.
Insists innocence. After using LOTS and LOTS of asterisks, as if said AG was in the know.
*wink* It's okay, dear. You can use that old sign above the 8 key without thinking you are doing anything promiscuous.

(18,421 posts)It's marinated in balsamic vinegar and a dash of vanilla extract, Then dredged and coated in bread crumbs and a combination of several ingredients including black pepper and cinnamon. Then they are drizzled with maple syrup and deep fried.
Delicious.

(10,893 posts)Too bad I haven't had any in at least 2 years, though; my family has been buying Popeye's instead because KFC is incredibly expensive.
