First it was the Red Sox-Yankees game on Saturday, then it was the NFL preseason game between the Colts and Giants on Sunday. Both times, the score graphic in the upper left-hand corner of my flat-screen TV was impossible to decipher. I made three calls to people in other parts of the country (I live in California) and they couldn't see it, either. The restaurant I ate at Sunday had the football game on, and the score graphic was messed up there, too.
FOX Sports has a history with this problem; it happened during Game One of the 2011 World Series. I reported on it, and they fixed it for the rest of that World Series. But now it's happening again.
Full story here, along with a link to contact FOX Sports if it is happening to you, too:

(111,949 posts)As you may be aware, there are various ratios such as 4:3 and 16: 9 for the screen configurations. If the display mode is set such that it takes up the entire width of the screen and doesn't allow for small amounts of black screen at the edges of the picture then the score displays will be cropped off. It may also cause tickers at either the top or the bottom of the screen to be cropped from the picture.
I'm not certain if that is the case now, but I certainly ran into that problem about three years ago when I finally moved from a CRT TV to a flat-screen.

Very frustrating!

(12,723 posts)The player in the picture looks a little too wide. Both pictures look stretched but ESPN puts their scores in the middle. Display mode on either the TV or the cable/sat box would be the culprit.

(1 post)I found the solution! It was not on my TV settings, it was on my cablevision remote. I went to settings (not quick settings) and did this!
Select HD settings, then picture size and then Normal. My setting had been STRETCH. this was the settting that made the difference! DON:T USE STRETCH!
