If the allegations are true, how fucked is Johnny Manziel?

Mr. Manziel is the Heisman Trophy winner who is currently facing allegations that he's been selling autographs while still a Texas Aggie.

My bet: he loses his eligibility permanently, can't get a job in pro football and winds up back in Tyler driving a garbage truck.

shows him taking money, I don't know what the NCAA can do. Isn't this similar to the rumors going around about CNewton at Auburn, even though it was his dad taking money?

I'd lay odds he will not win the Heisman again, but I think he will be playing on Saturdays.

I just don't like how kids are treated by the profitable football business.

There are so many high school and college players who are never going to be NFL stars. They ought to be sharing in the profits of the sport while they are playing today. Playing for prizes they may get someday, years in the future, doesn't seem fair in a sport where there is a substantial risk of permanent injury.

Kids studying accounting or engineering are not risking their futures as accountants or engineers when they do their homework or take exams. Kids playing football, practicing and playing games, certainly are risking their futures as professional athletes.

I'm not one of the athletes in my family, I have only a general interest in sports. Two of my siblings played college sports, my wife did, and my wife and kids are crazy about basketball. The friendly UCLA-USC rivalry in our family is intense because we've got graduates of both schools.

for money, it was considered a fantastic thing for students to do.

But God forbid an athlete make a dime off of his talent and work

Could be useful: allow college athletes to receive money for services like autograph signings, but require them to rebate 50 percent of the first $100k they earn in their college careers to their university. Right now, everyone except the student has the potential to make bank off college football...and the students are the ones out there risking life and limb.

Johnny's version is that he was asked to sign a bunch of helmet stickers that were to give handed out "to the troops." Next thing he knows, they're up for bid on eBay. You make the call on the believability factor.

All bets are off when it concerns the NCAA -- especially since Jay Bilas called them out on their hypocrisy about having no problem making a buck off so-called "student athletes," while the athletes themselves are basically slave labor.

My gut feel is that Manziel will continue to play college ball, but highly unlikely for the pros.
