9. Yes, I saw that film on TV when I was a teenager home alone

and it scared the daylights out of me, all without any blood or gore or monsters or even color.

Julie Harris was tremendous in that.

She was one of the greatest actresses who ever lived. I first saw her performance in The Belle of Amherst on PBS when I was a kid, and it still haunts me to this day.

What a tremendous loss for the theatre....

And she was her always usual great but Liz and Marlon, who were so often misused, were here well herded by Huston. Julie got a great line, her of a certain social status looking around the asylum they committed her to. What a choice crew, she said.

In many ways it is somewhat atypical for Carson McCullers, but it is my favorite of her longer works.
