(37,285 posts)I was driving drunk and ran a red light. A policeman pulled me over.
Thinking quick, I told him I was trying to attract his attention. He told me I was successful. I then told him somebody in a white Ford tried to sell me heroin. He was off like a shot and I drove home without further incident.
It was a long time ago.

(21,020 posts)dumb...
got married to a guy I had only known five months so my son would have a dad.
He was a persistent liar (even when there was no reason to lie), had serious issues with his mom (ladies, if you want to know how a man will treat you, look at his relationship with his mom), and had a very bad temper.
Best thing that happened from that marriage was my daughter.
You are telling my story.

I ended up marrying a wonderful human being, but I've struggled with my past quite a lot.

Still married, but sometimes I wonder what life would have been like if I'd had a few adventures.

Besides that, I tried to sell one of my shipmates to a guy in Oman for two chickens and a goat.

(50,528 posts)I liked the Army, and it managed to plunk my skinny ass in Berlin so it'd be there the night the Wall came down. But the job would have been more interesting, and the Navy doesn't send ANYONE to Fort Hood, Texas.

(6,154 posts)I put "dumb" in quotations here as I'm limiting what I regret not having done to the usual list of adolescent dumb shit, nothing truly stupid. Things might have been better for me had I had the courage to get out into the world as a younger guy.
I told my son the other day to get the really stupid stuff out of his system now before he's a legal adult. I hope he takes my advice. Really stupid stuff = misdemeanors level, no felonies please lol

(6,154 posts)I was raised by protective parents and had a life long history of problems with anxiety and depression. So I never really got "launched". Even now at 31 I live the life of a 16 year old in some respects though I'm trying my best to change that.

(37,457 posts)Start small with things. Easily recoverable stuff, if you will. I know, much easier said than done.
I think he will be fine. I've drilled legal/appropriate behavior into him for 17 years, but who knows, he might have a brain aneurysm. Meh. I've done all I can.
