(12,132 posts)I need to find more stuff like that. I LOVE PFunk and I have a little Curtis Mayfiled and James Brown in my collection and a few others but I am understocked on good ol' 70s funk. I also love the Roots and Robert Randolph and his Family Band but sometimes I'm just in the mood to go way back.
Thanks for bringing me the Funky Nassau, BBM!

(The "I'm sorry's" and the fights... o-h-h-h-h, the fights.)
.
I saw Parliament-Funkadelic in 1972 as the headliners of one of the all-day Sunday Concerts
in the Park in my Michigan hometown (for a little town of 50,000 they put on the coolest
Sunday concerts EVER!!!).
.
The singers (5 of them, including George Clinton) were AWOL, so the band played some
unbelievably TIGHT instrumental funk for about 15-20 minutes. Suddenly, this big white
limo came careening down the grassy hillside and skidded to a stop near the stage. The
singers, all dressed in heavy monk's robes with full hoods (in scorching heat) all tumbled --
(actually TUMBLED) out of the car like a bunch of red-rubbernosed clowns, picked
themselves up and staggered to the stage.
.
Once they stood in front of their mikes, they straightened up immediately. What a GREAT
show!!!
.
Second-to-last song, George Clinton throws back his hood and he's got a head shaven (this
is LONG before his rainbow dreads) to form astrological signs.
.
Last song, he threw the robe completely off (this was when he was in phenomenal shape).
He was wearing nothing but a pair of black Speedos. The woman behind me (I had her
pegged at about 350 pounds) grabbed ME up (all 145 pounds of me) in this death-grip
bearhug screaming, "OH, BABY!!! OH, BABY BABY BABY BABY BABY!!!".
.
.
.
Obviously, I survived.
.
.
.
But just barely.
.
.
.
I felt like Rog getting hugged by his mom in "What's Happening" -- "Mama... I can't BREATHE!!!"
.
.
.
Anyways, this isn't Parliament-Funkadelic (but take THIS, "Turn the Page" .

(12,132 posts)some even sell new ones too - but I bet I can find Little Feat records and now I'm gonna have to try. That's the kind of sound that vinyl was made for...
Awesome Pfunk show story! That settles it - the dude is 150 years old and still tours. I vow not to miss him if I ever get another chance.

To tell you the truth, some of their studio work was really lame compared to
their live stuff (as with so many artists).

(12,132 posts)it's very rare I don't prefer live versions of songs. I love Led Zep but I bet my bootleg to studio album listening ratio for the last 20 years is a 1000 to 1...

(25,816 posts)Would someone teach me how to post the video and not just the link? Please?

(28,784 posts)Nice!!!
you have to ONLY use the direct link to the video. If you get to it by it being embedded somewhere else, just type the youtube title in again and you'll get just the direct link when you copy it that way.
