(41,959 posts)I used to check the news here because it seemed someone was following media on just about everything, but these days everything seems to devolve into a war. It's sad.

(10,237 posts)It is as if they just sign up for the pizza. Must be the smell of pizza baking in the morning. Great crust, fine sauce, fresh toppings, DU specialty pizza is irresistible to under the bridge dwellers. They are hungry little disruptors. I'm not good at finding or catching but I watch like hell and cheer it on.
Go team!!!

(50,549 posts)The software at the heart of Democratic Underground has gone through three revisions, which we tend to call DU, DU2 and DU3.
In DU and DU2, the moderators would replace the avatar of a person who'd been kicked off the board with a picture of a tombstone inscribed with the epitaph, "Here lies a disruptor. He disrupted poorly." This was called "being tombstoned." (Now it's called "being PPRd" - posting privileges revoked - and you don't get the picture of the tombstone.) Tombstone is a brand of frozen pizza, so this process eventually earned the nickname "pizza delivery."
Ask one of us about chicken sometime...

(50,549 posts)Someone opened a thread asking if it was okay to bread chicken in crushed cornflakes. The ensuing flamewar was so intense that the site owner (David Allen, who goes by "Skinner" - it's a tribute to Principal Skinner in The Simpsons) was tombstoning people for even mentioning the word "chicken" in a post.

Eventually, it was not about chicken.

(16,334 posts)Yeah, DU can take a topic and run it into the ground and the chicken threads took that route. However, I think there was a lot going on outside of DU and it carried over on to this site. I was not directly involved with any of that but once you found out who had been placed on forced ignore and the "sides" started to emerge, that's when you could see the knife throwing. I'm sure Skinner was just fed up.
I don't know if they do forced ignore anymore but you know it's bad when the admin has to keep people from seeing each other!
BainsBane
(53,026 posts)but it seems like the flame wars are all out in the open now, with call outs in the OPs.

(16,334 posts)I think, in general, people could be snarkier but there was no jury system. As a newbie, I had someone say FU to me over a grocery cart discussion. They went on to be a moderator. And then much later, they got banned.

(22,000 posts)is making a rather large disruption and having a long history of disruption. The problem with that is it would be based on either 1) posts that were hidden or 2) posts that went to admins. Juries shrug so much off that should be hidden that people can get away with calling others pretty bad things w/o getting dinged. Posts aren't hidden which should be because of one or two ignorant jurors vote to leave it.

(19,369 posts)For brand new members with just a few posts, the software automatically PPR's when a post is hidden by jury decision. After that the MIR Team has authority to PP R a low post count member that the team reaches consensus on as being a disruptor. Admin can PPR anybody at any time and it has been my observation that The Administrator's patience for shit disturbing is a lot shorter these days even with members who have thousands of posts and have been here a long time.

(53,026 posts)or being found out as a RW troll--more serious TOS violations. At least that has been the case in the short time I've been on MIRT.

(10,237 posts)there will be no pizza or breaded chicken just a spicy troll sandwich served on a Buick Rivera hub cap to go .

which means:
1- yep, he/she's a troll
2- you hate this member
3- you disagree strongly with this member
4- you're just a rectum out to cause trouble.
I don't envy their task in delivering pizzas.
