Five calls in half an hour. Each number is long distance and different. I picked one up and instead of hearing someone on the other end, it dialed out to someone that quickly answered. Unfortunately, I was half asleep and didn't understand what he said. I apologized and hung up.
But the calls keep on coming in.
Is this normal?

(16,330 posts)Have you made any donations recently? I swear I have every group ever associated with the Democratic Party calling me for an urgent donation. Always a long distance number. I stopped answering. I appreciate what they do but I do not appreciate being ratted out to every calling list ever invented.

(8,747 posts)I would start doing so. I am willing they are coming from one Telemarketing firm.

(8,747 posts)I figure if it is important, then they will leave a voicemail. 95% of the telemarketers do not do so.

Some computerized calls are made just to see what time of day you are available to answer
the phone. When I found that out, I decided to not be available.
The calls almost completely stopped. Now we just get one call or two a day about
changing our electricity service biller. I keep asking those to take us off their lists
so hoping that will stop in the next 30 days or so.

(46,684 posts)This morning I answered quickly because I have a friend who is going in for an MRI this week and I told her I would be available for her. I didn't even check the number before answering.

(7,720 posts)My father still has a land-line and he gets about 5 calls a month that actually matter. He has had the same cell phone number since 1996. In fact, he has a second land-line for faxes. He does get faxes associated with a side-business. I've designed a PDF that could be e-mailed to him so he still gets the reports. So far, I've had little success in getting him to drop his land-lines. Of course, he's 80 years old so change isn't easy.

(30,947 posts)I can't drop the land line because I have a life alert system and it must be connected to a land line.

(7,720 posts)The benefits of a land line is that they almost never go out, and they really don't cost all that much anymore.
It was just a few years ago, well, probably at least 15 now, that we were being asked to change our long-distance carrier and get $50 or something like that. I have a SIL who drove my brother nuts because he never knew for sure who their long distance carrier was.

(20,277 posts)all the damn time on my cell. I can block/reject the number, but I can still check in the 'received calls' doodad. They called 23x in one day! Just called 2x today. I put this number into the 'have phone, need name' and it came up with 'known for spam'.
Baitball Blogger
(46,684 posts)Each one is a different area code. I wonder if the numbers can be traced to a source, when it's redirecting the calls to another number if you pick up the line?

(60,010 posts)that telemarketers ignore and they also use spoof numbers on your caller ID screen.
I get, 3-4 times a week, at varying hours, robo calls offering "security" systems, and offering car warrenties.
Same recorded female voice, I think it is Rachel from Cardservices in a 2nd job or something.
Waiting out the robocall and pushing the number they give to remove us from the calling list does absolutely nothing.
Mr. Dixie has the land line in his name, and stupidly allowed his name and number in the phone books in our area..
grrrrrrrrrrrrr.
The few times I get calls where a human asks to speak to "Mr or Mrs" his-last-name,
I know it is a sales call, and tell them he is dead.
HE is not in the house all day long, so the annoying calls don't bother HIM.
grrrrr again.

(13,985 posts)some telemarketers trying to sell BCBS insurance, which I already have! they call at 8:30am every day, then another 3 or 4 times a day. I told them I don't want any, but they keep calling.

(13,985 posts)Area Code 426
The 426 area code appears to be a invalid, it may be "spoofed".
Phone calls originating from within the 426 area code often turn out to be a telemarketer, a telephone survey or bill collector trying to disguise their real phone number.
If you received a phone call or text message from within the 426 area code please drop a comment about it, or lookup the phone number to see what other people know about the phone number.

you can do a reverse look up on all the numbers. its most likely telemarketers
426 doesn't even exist in US. Its either international or computer originated

(20,886 posts)I did this on the advice of my telephone company. I thought I would have to do it for each number that called. Turns out stopping one number pretty much stopped 90% of the calls from all numbers. I still get a few calls, but not nearly the volume as before.
Not answering the phone doesn't work, by the way. I tried that for almost a year. They are robo dials and they just keep dialing until someone (at their end) tells them not to.
