The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI love the "ignore" feature.
I only have one person on it, but it gives me a warm fuzzy whenever I see she is trying to get my attention. I wonder if it irks her that I cannot see her nasty, venomous posts, and that she looks like a fool for continuing to try and bait me.
Then I wonder if she has changed, and I sometimes feel guilty because I wonder if she is trying to make peace, and if my ignoring her is kind of rude as a result.
But mostly I just chortle in evil glee at how it must really chap her ass that I am REALLY, TRULY IGNORING HER, and that she has no influence or bearing on the happiness and quality of my life.
I am a confusing and complex person - lol!
I love DU.
ON EDIT: Grammar - doh!

(10,559 posts)I won't name names, but she introduced me to 'meta' - shudder! - I should have just ignored her right then since she was one of its frequent contributors, but I generally try to give people the benefit of the doubt.
And now I am a *big* meanie who is ignoring her.
(Is there a "stick your tongue" out smilie? Lol!

I only have one person on my ignore - I've been here on DU for 10 years, but that person well deserved a permanent ignore:
Last time I checked, 12 people had me on ignore, can't remember how I found that.
Mostly I use what I call "Brain Ignore" to those that try to intimidate me into a ridiculous argument.
I recognise their name afterwards, and just do not respond.
Works for me!

ON EDIT:
Oh, I was counting how many I have on Ignore above. I forgot how to find out how many have me on Ignore, too!

(4,243 posts)Just a few days ago all you had to do is this...
Go to My Profile at the top of this page
After you click on My Profile, right underneath the words My Profile 4 tabs will appear.
Click on the transparency tab (even though the word transparency isn't highlighted you can still click on it)
Just a few lines down and to the right is a link that says, "show me my transparency page"
Click on that link and scroll down a little ways and it would show you how many people have you on ignore, but as I said earlier it seems to have been taken away.

(10,559 posts)I still wish "Ignore" could be made mutual, with automatic resets every few months.
I have gotten into raging flame wars with people who turned out to be completely reasonable on other topics.
Wait Wut
(8,492 posts)15 have me on ignore. I have no idea who they are (except one) and it doesn't affect me. Because I don't know who they are, I have no idea if my replies to them are not seen or just not replied to.

(10,559 posts)"You are ignoring this person" in the "My Posts" tab.
Since I only have the one, it is kind of obvious. And honestly, I wasn't ignoring her until she got obnoxious on a thread about my (deceased) sister.
Sigh.
Anyway, I was up to 25 people ignoring me at one point, but I don't know where to find it anymore. (I was wondering if the Admins made that "show and tell" feature go away? Hmm.) I believe most of them were from "meta" but I am confident my opinions on a wide variety of other controversial topics have annoyed many people. (I accidentally initiated a TOTAL flame war yesterday about Syria and had to start a second thread to get a civil discussion.)

(21,020 posts)understand this.
Some of the least offensive people seem to have the highest numbers ignoring them.
There are plenty of DUers I disagree with on some, or most, issues, but I only ignore them if they're nasty to me.
I can't even imagine why there would be that many ignoring you.
Wait Wut
(8,492 posts)...were ignoring CaliforniaPeggy. I think a lot of it has to do with the lack of debate skills. People get way too bent out of shape if someone disagrees with them. Hey, I know I'm always right, but if someone else wants to be wrong that's their right.
She is so nice. But the lack of debating my be a turn off to some. I had someone directly tell me they were putting me on ignore for posting provocative crap and not sticking around to defend it. To each is own.
BTW, I think I'm better about that now. Although I still don't like to fight.
Is this a loosely concealed call out post? It stands a chance of being locked soon. Just saying.
It is.

(10,559 posts)(Probably showing my age) but I was paid $2.85 per hour because I started when I was 16, and they didn't have to pay me the "full" minimum wage of $3.35 per hour.
I did it for over two years, and I was very good at it. ("Would you like a LARGE fry with that? How about an apple pie for dessert?" - Lol!)
After one year I received a FIFTEEN CENT RAISE - woo hoo! (Yes, I really was pleased.) which brought me to $3.00 per hour. (Most people only got five or ten cent increases - I was a "good worker."
Almost a year later (right before my eighteenth birthday) I received my next raise - ten cents, bringing me to $3.10 per hour; two weeks later I turned eighteen and was automatically bumped to $3.35 - and yes, the manager did it that way on purpose.
(Insert nasty descriptive word here.)
It wasn't long after that I joined the "office work force" which automatically jumped my pay to $5.00 per hour (which was great, because by then I was living on my own/supporting myself), and the rest, as they say is history.
I am more sympathetic than most to the travails of fast food service, but also have higher expectations because I *know* what is involved.
It will be interesting to see how the whole thing plays out.

Therefore I am not engaging.
So she is free to be mean and nasty and snarky - and I am free not to bring it into my life.
Sometimes it is the best an imperfect person can do.
But you are right that I *know* she is out there, and on the off chance she is trying to make peace, then I kind of suck.
Drat.
I live on a roller-coaster of indecision some times.
