I never thought an illustrated text would be so difficult until Derrida put me right...

I'm doing an independent study with my favorite professor and the book list has become somewhat of a clusterfuck. Multiple books by Foucault, Derrida, and Zizek. Also some Deleuze and Fanon and Pynchon. A few others that are equally monstrous.

Anyway, I ordered the Derrida (I've been deconstructing for years but have never actually read him) books she recommended and the first one came in the mail. At first glance, it looked almost like a comic book and I was annoyed that I'd ordered the wrong one. After all, what are the odds my professor recommended an illustrated text for me? I'm too old for such elementary thinking.

Whatever, I figured I'd glance over it before I sent it back. Whelp, turns out there was no mistake made. This is the most difficult illustrated book I've ever read. Talk about a blow to the ego. Now I'm a little afraid to dive into Of Grammatology.

Who knew?

Grammatology is a term coined by the linguist Ignace Gelb in 1952 to refer to the scientific study of writing systems or scripts.[1] It includes the typology of scripts, the analysis of the structural properties of scripts, and the relationship between written and spoken language.[2] In its broadest sense, some scholars also include the study of literacy in grammatology and, indeed, the impact of writing on philosophy, religion, science, administration and other aspects of the organization of society.[3]

Good luck with that!

difficult or not that's what's important.

After looking up Grammatology I have to say it sounds interesting but not at all my forte.

I'd have killed to be able to take the course you're describing and with that reading list.
