Tim Tebow cut by New England Patriots, according to report
Tim Tebow was cut by the New England Patriots, according to a report.
Tebow was hoping to make the Patriots' final cut, but ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Saturday New England would only carry two quarterbacks and parted ways with Tebow.
Tebow tossed two touchdown passes in the fourth quarter, including a 9-yard pass to Quentin Sims, during the Patriots' final preseason game Thursday. The Patriots earned a 28-20 win over the Giants.
It wasn't enough to offset his rough early performances and the Patriots opted to stick with two quarterbacks -- franchise star Tom Brady and reserve Ryan Mallett.

(1,965 posts)Last night on the NFL Access show on the NFL Network,Terrell Davis went on about he expected the Pats to cut Timmaaay and that he'd end up with the Raiders. We'll see. They also said the Raider coach was in Denver with Tebow and is well aware of the baggage that comes with him.

(20,176 posts)It's a logical argument to make if you're of the opinion that he's not an NFL-level QB but almost certainly an NFL-level TE/H-back/FB. The ball's in Tim's court on that one...if he wants an NFL career, it's not going to be under center. I'd have to think playing in Jax would be a career dream for him as well.

(39,343 posts)The team is horrible, what bad could happen by having him, they lose? So what, they'll do that anyway.

Can anyone be worse than Blaine Gabbert?

(21,020 posts)I thought for sure after throwing for two touchdowns against NYG, the Pats would at least keep him the rest of the season to see what could be done with him in whatever capacity.
Well, one thing I'm glad of...
At least he's leaving NE (and possibly football) with some shred of dignity left...something he didn't get a whole lot of when he was with NYJ.
I wish him well, whatever he chooses to do. He seems like a decent guy.
Almost doesn't seem fair that guys like Aaron Hernandez, full of talent, should be scumdogs while a lot of decent guys just don't make it.

(20,176 posts)they were not going to cut Ryan Mallett for him.
Mallett's one of those guys, Kirk Cousins here in Washington is another, that should be a starting QB somewhere in the league because he's better than the average NFL starting QB...but not as good as the guy ahead of him on the depth chart. At some point, Brady is going to get hurt and Mallett's going to shine, Brady's going to retire and Mallett's going to shine, or someone is going to part with a pretty package to trade for him. (a' la Matt Schaub)
None of that is worth giving up to keep Tebow.

He's got a monster arm but his accuracy needs lots of work. Although yeah, I could see him being a starting QB on a team that really needs one
