Something did not add up with that ending. How, exactly, does the timeline work out if Walter ceases to exist? Without him, there would be no Peter Bishop, and also no Etta because Peter and Olivia would have never met.
What's confusing is that December tells September that the Observers would cease to exist. That ruins my theory that time would be altered as of the day of the Observer Invasion, which began at the beginning of Season 5. But, exactly how does time resolve Walter's exit from the timeline? The fact that Peter receives an envelope with a tulip suggests that Walter was around long enough to mail it. Right?
So, how was he "erased" from time? (i.e. how did he die where Peter and Olivia wouldn't go looking for him.) And what meaning would the tulip have to Peter?

Think of it this way - Walter can only exist in one point in time at any given moment

So, if you saw the ending, didn't you see the inconsistency in that ending?

He can't co-exist in 2015 and the 2300s (or 2400s?). I'm not sure how; but he disappeared from 2015 and began existing in the future. As for the envelope, maybe he had someone mail it or he had his Observer travel back in time to deliver it.
The finale was a little murky with details but the five season journey of Fringe was wonderful as a whole.

(46,715 posts)7. I enjoyed Season 5 more than I expected to.
I figured out what I was looking for in the link I posted above your post. Back before they were ambered, Walter was planning to send a VHS to Peter explaining his departure and ultimate disappearance. They both sat and watched it together right before the final battle. That tells me that he would simply cease to exist in 2015, but everything that occurred before then was still valid.
It is possible that Donald mailed the tulip card. As September, he would still have had time travel abilities if the Observer Invasion never happened.
