I got fired today........... and....GOT A NEW JOB!!!

Wow what a rollercoaster me and my wife have been on for the last month.

Sept 4th - I get called into the President of the nuthouse/cult that I was working at about not singing a ridiculous new employment contract. 45 minutes later I get an email from my headhunter that I didn't get the job EVERYONE thought I was a lock. They decided not to hire anyone. They had even taken me to lunch on the Friday before.

DAMN!

So I find out about this other job....a GOVERNMENT JOB... I stealthily went to two interviews. I got the call yesterday basically telling me that I had it but that they needed to verify my wages, a referral from my current supervisor OR my last two signed performance evaluations. I informed my current supervisor (who isn't that bad at least compared to the whackjobs at the very top) who took the call. She told me (I knew what this meant) that H.R. would take care of it (high priestess in the cult). They both kept their doors closed and phone off the hook for the rest of the afternoon. Finally at 4:30 I had had enough. I sent read receipt emails to H.R., my boss, and the Pres. and VP. No answer. I went down and knocked H.R.'s door a couple of times. AS I was leaving I opened her door (H.R. open door policy -- right?) and she grabbed the phone and said to me "I am not faxing them". I said "I need the copies on my desk by 8 am. Thank you". Closed the door.

I get home and find copies of my last two evals but they aren't signed copy. Part my stupidity - party the cult's sociopathic ways.

Today I get an email from after I left wordsmithingly telling me that they were not going to fax the emails at all. I requested copies again as I did yesterday. Finally not only did they say they didn't have to provide me with the documents (that have my signature on them) they wrote me up for bothering them yesterday. "This is your personal matter not business related". We went at it and finally they asked for my resignation.... I said "Ok" and left the office. They were literally doing a victory lap when I said, "I haven't given you an answer yet". "OH YES YOU DID!!!". The PRes finally came out of her lair and told me "you have to go".

I packed up my stuff while 5 people watched me and the Pres audio recorded it. The first thing, after she turned on her recorder, that I said was - "I feel threatened by you and this situation".

I get home at about 10:30.

At 2:15 I got the call. I GOT THE JOB AAAAAAAAAAAND A RAISE(a slight one)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

....after more than 35 years - it was his only job after leaving the army at 21 years old. On his way home he stopped in a machine shop to talk to a friend, the owner. The owner hired him on the spot. We estimate that he was unemployed for about 20 minutes, yet he still got his 35 weeks of severance pay - screw the bastards!

Good to see stories like these.

I felt the same way when I got fired from my 1st job, only to be hired at a different company 2 weeks later. Through it all, I learned that it's good to keep your cool and be patient, during such situations. After all, panicking won't make it any easier to get another job.
