Just when you want to hate someone...you see their humanity.

I work with a guy who has been with the company for 23 years. I would guess that he is in his early sixties. I've never really been fond of the guy. He works like he's being paid fifty dollars an hour. I subscribe to the theory that you should work like you are being paid. That is, the amount and quality of work should reflect the rate of pay. I know that bastard isn't getting paid fifty dollars an hour.

Anyway, we're truckers and our paths cross ways on our daily journeys. I have a hard time staying awake some mornings so I will stop to take a short nap sometimes at a customer's place. I've talked to them about it and they don't mind. But this little, old ratfucker will come along while he's doing his gig and see me there taking a nap. Instead of just letting things be, he tells everyone how I like to sleep on the job. It doesn't take too long before that gets back to the boss. Ratfucker. Little, old bastard even looks like a rat.

It turns out that this guy had throat cancer in the past. He entered treatment right when I started working there. He came back several months later saying the cancer was in remission.

I got word the other day that they found a spot on one of his lungs.

I think you should be ninety before you are eligible to die.

He needs to be confronted, IMHO. Of course, I could be wrong.

I've told him of my predicament. I work and go to school part time. Caffeine doesn't do much for me. I don't know why. The only thing that helps me when I'm too sleepy to drive is a short nap. After that I'm fine for the rest of the day.

But I don't think I'm going to have to worry about him too much longer. I'm not going to miss the guy, but I would have wished him a happy retirement before what I think lies ahead.

I think your approach is greatly superior to mine, lol!

You have such a good heart, my dear Tobin...
