I'm not fond of cell phones. In fact, I dislike then with a fury.

My wonderful kids both have cell phones and so do most of the people I know. That's OK, but it is frustrating as heck when I try to call for a quick chat and always get voice mail. I long for the old days when someone I called answered or the phone just rang and finally I hung up. Even a busy signal would be a relief.

I'm getting crotchety in my old age but I can't get used to this cell phone world. Need a quick answer? Forget it. Leave a message and I'll call you back.

Phooey!

it really gets under my skin when I have friends "VISIT" and they are texting on their phones even while were watching a movie and what's worse is they were texting each other while in my living room I mean for crying out loud people if you go to visit someone get off the damn phone and spend some time with another human being. What an idea right.

Between my being unable to move that fast and having any one of my cats walking slowly in front of me when I stand up I can never get to the phone by the 4th ring so it always ends up in voice mail.

My land line has voice mail. It is through Comcast and the caller ID comes up on my TV, so if I don't recognize the number I don't answer. If they call is important the caller should leave a voice mail. I only use my cell phone when I am on the road in my car, and when the power goes off at home because my land line is part of my Comcast package, so if the power goes out I lose everything, TV, Internet and phone service.

I've seen people sit across fro each other in fancy restaurants text in other people. Why go out to eat with someone if you are gong to ignore them?

The guy who texted me was...Sitting right behind me! I asked him why didn't he just tap me on the shoulder or something and he said it was more fun to text. Whatever.
I never have received a text message from him again. Or a call for that matter.

Or maybe they're in a store.

Without cell phones, you wouldn't even be able to contact them if they weren't home by a land line.

Now that I have one, why would people rather text me than talk to me? Or, I had someone call me during working hours and were disappointed that I answered, they only wanted to leave me a voicemail!

What I don't like the most is that this seems to be replacing full-fledged computer use, and real typing on a keyboard, real spelling and punctuation and meaningful communication in full sentences, has gone SO by the wayside, as has serious internet surfing and exchange of information. And I have a data card, but it's INSIDE the phone where I have to take it apart to get to it, I feel like we are being conditioned to dumb-down our communications as well as our thoughts.

But I got to a point in my life where it had to be a cell phone or no phone, and then later I went SMART phone for easier regular access to the internet.

Trying to figure out this world of music without CD's, too. Too much change too fast, but I have to admit there's good along with the bad.

We just have to learn to allow technology ENHANCE our lives, not MOLD our lives. Young people don't realize this because they haven't lived long enough to observe drastic changes in people's behavior.

Not to mention the adverse health effects particularly for young people.

I also like the mobility of it - to keep in touch, make arrangements when I'm on the road.

However, I do NOT do text, and my voicemail is shut off -

Also - I shut my phone off every evening - and sometimes leave it off for days if I am not in the mood for interruptions.

Most people I know and care about are aware of my habits, and are also aware I check my e-mail daily -

again - no landline, so for internets I use what they call a "stick"; Bell Mobility at the moment, but very pricey usage wise.

Watching movies online is out of the question. After 10 gigabytes, I get charged $10/gig - so a 4 gig movie -

right - out of the question unless I'm fricken nuts - -

Not yet I ain't, so I buy DVDs on line for 5 - 10 bucks.

Phone is pay as ya go - 30 cents a minute

I ain't a chatter at that price.

Anyhoo I like my cell;

But it's a tool 4 me,

not a toy.
