Should be interesting. And, you know the title implies that an accident will happen on day 31...
Episode Synopsis: The Season 4 opener finds Rick and the group aiming to maintain a close-to-ideal life at the prison. Original Air Date: Oct 13, 2013
Won't be on for another 12 hours, but I'm a bit anxious with all the BS going on with the Tea Party shutdown.
some spoilers & news for the upcoming season:

(90,769 posts)I've been reminded why I never liked Andrea. (or Lori or Shane)
Also been re-reading the novels from start.
And tonight....
NewJeffCT
(56,828 posts)a lot better than tv-show Andrea.
I hope it's just the new people biting it tonight. I'm not ready to lose anyone from the primary group yet.
NewJeffCT
(56,828 posts)As Andrea is still alive in the comics and had just - swipe for comic spoilers - hooked up with Rick

(90,769 posts)or in the comics, really.

(18,497 posts)Such a fucking weasel coward.
And Andrea liked to bump naughty bits with psychopaths.
Lori just didn't really have any character development other than always looking for Carl.
Solly Mack
(90,769 posts)but when he thought Rick was leaving him behind (after Shane tried to kill Rick, again), he couldn't believe someone would do that to him?
Joe Shlabotnik
(5,604 posts)I thought he was more believable than the rather cartoonish Governor, and more complicated as a threat since he was both unhinged, and yet still a contributing member of the group.
Vashta Nerada
(3,922 posts)I mean, they're undead. Shouldn't they be decomposing and just die off from decay at some point? One would think so.
NewJeffCT
(56,828 posts)but, I believe something about the virus slows it down to a crawl, so the decay process will take years.

(2,051 posts)My son is trying to convince me that Hershel died last season. Could that have happened and I forgot?
He might have been thinking of Dale?
Hershel lost his leg early in season 3 - he was bitten and Rick chopped his leg off in hopes of saving him. It worked in that Hershel is alive, but his leg was severed below the knee.
ok_cpu
(2,051 posts)But he was so adamant and so many people did die in that finale that I was starting to doubt myself.
Thanks for the reply.

(18,705 posts)We need a wise old soul on the show.
NewJeffCT
(56,828 posts)than comic book Hershel, so I have no idea how long he'll be around. (And, Comic book Andrea is still alive, while she died last year on the show.)
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)She went back to the Gov.
I didn't like seeing her in the chair.
In her defense she did try to shoot him from the window but was stopped.
RIP Andrea.

(56,828 posts)I'm hoping it's a good start.

(56,828 posts)I'm guessing they'll be making an appearance in the second half of the season.

(18,705 posts)That would be the last place i would go.
To many room to set traps.
His army really didn't know how to fight, not like Rick's crew.
I would have just locked the door behind the Gov's army and let the walkers get them.
Most of the Gov's army would have shot each other just trying to shoot a walker.
Joe Shlabotnik
(5,604 posts)assault on the prison was probably the low point of last season. They really could have gone somewhere with it and easily stretched it out into 2 or 3 episodes, but instead it fizzled.

(18,705 posts)Here you have a bunch of people who have been living a place for months.
They are going to know their way around.
Plus throw in walkers, and untrained people.
Just how would this work out well.
I would think fighting in the woods might make more sense.
NewJeffCT
(56,828 posts)The Guv & crew could have had other heavy arms - launched a few RPG rounds in there, set the walkers in the other cell blocks free, etc....

(90,769 posts)They showed him early in the show as well. When the kids were mocking the walkers at the fence.
ETA: Right at the beginning of the show the bleeding eyes zombie is shown when Rick is in the garden and finds the gun. Rick will notice him again later when he notices the pig has died. And I'm pretty sure he was around when the kids were mocking. I am watching again now.
charlie and algernon
(13,447 posts)Anytime society breaks down, albeit from a natural disaster, etc, you start to see nasty diseases popping up. Here you have society and it's infrastructure completely gone. AND you have rotting corpses both walking and lying around everywhere, it's only natural that some truly nasty diseases would appear. Could be an ebola-type virus, could be bubonic plague on steroids.
Solly Mack
(90,769 posts)Now we know...
I'm going to watch it again to see the various contacts. I know Daryl touched him...licked his fingers prior. Then Zombie Harry Potter was cooking/serving food for Carol right after that. He was around the kids before 'book reading' time.
Baitball Blogger
(46,716 posts)Was he the one who shook Daryl's hand? That means that the people who have been exposed most to the zombies are contagious to those who don't have antibodies.

(90,769 posts)Whew. I knew the lady of the woods was an ambush....just didn't know she would be doing it. Thought Eddie would be the attacker. Rick was just carrying on a conversation with the creepy woman...downright passing pleasantries between them. I kept waiting for someone to jump out and attack him.
No coming back from the things you've done. Hmm...hafta think on that. (Creepy Woodsy Lady)
Then Hershel talking about being able to come back. (Rick did, Hershel did)
NewJeffCT
(56,828 posts)and, I thought Eddie was some sort of walker the way she talked about him.

(56,828 posts)out of his misery - think of Carl on the farm in season 2 with the zombie in the mud that eventually killed Dale.

Solly Mack
(90,769 posts)What's up with Tyreese?
Since Daryl touched Zombie Harry Potter....??????
(and Zombie Potter touched the food and the water in the shower...and was around all the kids during "book reading".... with Carol ???????
New guy under the wine rack has a booze problem? (potential trouble)
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)How did the walkers get on the roof.
From the helicopter I guess.
Maybe the group being on it own developed some antibodies.
Solly Mack
(90,769 posts)I would hate losing Daryl.
Ebola, for one, is still contagious after death.
And rats are a known host for viral hemorrhagic fevers....and someone is feeding the walkers rats. Someone with a white hand.
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)I had to leave the room for some of the show.
Of course someone just had to call me at this time.
All of these people would have such a case of PDST.
Death, nothing but death.
I been though a lot of stress, it just eats at you.
I can find ways to relax, how would they.
Solly Mack
(90,769 posts)At the very end they show someone feeding the walkers and you see a hand...it is a white hand.
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)I wonder who would feed the walkers anything.
This season is going to be really dark.
Just saw the preview for next week, no.
Looks like they have to leave the prison.
Good thing Carl is a tough kid.
Solly Mack
(90,769 posts)A lot of emphasis on not thinking of food as pets...or the dead as human. Maybe someone who sees them like Hershel used to see them?
I was wondering if Tyreese cracked. How he doesn't want to kill them close-up and personal and now he seems to be skittish about killing them on runs. But that could be a distraction from the real culprit.
Probably one of the new people we haven't met yet.
Also, the hand in the flashlight looks white to me. I'll have to look again when that part replays.
I also wonder if the Guv is inside the prison lurking. It's a big place...you never know.
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)The prison is big, with a big hole in the wall.
Look at the creepy lady in the woods, bringing live food for the head in the bag.
Who knows.
This won't be like the season on the farm.
Where do all the walkers keep coming from.
The prison isn't in a big city.
Imagine have to do fence cleaning duty.
Solly Mack
(90,769 posts)I was wrong about when it was shown.
It was at the end of the show during the sneak peek.
Like you said, I agree...dark. Very dark.
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)We are in for a ride.
I just noticed the bleeding walker at the fence.
His face was bleeding.
NewJeffCT
(56,828 posts)which occurred to me after coffee was that maybe the rat feeder person is not feeding the whole rat to a walker. He feeds part of it to get it infected and then mixed it into the pig feed to infect the pigs. Pigs are omnivores so will eat the meat. The pork then infects the humans who eat it.
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)The walker was given the head of the rat to eat.
You are right pigs will eat anything.
I just wonder who the person on the inside is.
Solly Mack
(90,769 posts)the walker and not really giving it the whole rat.
Could be...how creepy is that? We've got a sicko in the prison.
NewJeffCT
(56,828 posts)maybe somebody the Governor bullied into it, or a townsperson still loyal to him?
Solly Mack
(90,769 posts)What if Patrick was part of the rat feeding before he died? Maybe it was 2 of them and that's why Patrick was the first one to get sick? Or maybe the preview was a flashback and it was just Patrick feeding the walkers?.... But now the disease is inside the walls of the prison.
But another preview shows Sasha saying "Sombody is feeding them"....so there has to be someone else.
Didn't they hint at taking in others over the course of those passing months? Not just from Woodbury but other strangers? (Hence the 3 questions)
So...it could be one of those strangers.
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)Creepy
Solly Mack
(90,769 posts)Or it could be the 2 aren't connected. I somehow doubt it though.
Though the dead are still contagious once infected while alive...can the dead be infected? Could the bleeding eye walkers have recently died from the disease? (Newer walkers...they don't look as rotten as some)
Are rat droppings (or decaying dead rats) getting into the food supply through slop fed to the pigs?
Are the rats eating the animal food or biting the animals?
Are arthropods biting the animals and transmitting the disease?
Who is feeding the walkers rats and where are they getting the rats and where are they keeping the rats. To sneak off to feed the walkers the rats would have to be handy.
The people at the fence have to be getting blood on them when they drive weapons into the heads of walkers...so are they getting the disease along with the blood spatter?
Means a lot more will get sick.
Damnit! What are they going to put us through this season!
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)Our crew seemed to be covered in blood at times in the past.
You know the writers can't let our guys have a easy life at the prison.
Nice bed, enough food, and some down time to relax.
No.
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)The town people were behind walls away from the walkers.
Our guys were around them daily.
Could be.
The new guy the medic knows something.
He was peeling back the skin on the head of the walker.
He knows.
Solly Mack
(90,769 posts)I'm afraid they get rid of Judith this way and create (renew an old one actually) more conflict between Rick and Carl.
Carl wasn't happy, at first, about the Woodbury people coming at the end of last season. Carl would blame Rick should his sister die from anything a former Woodbury resident does.
I don't know. lol
Just guessing. Gonna be a wild ride!
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)The new guy in town says he was a medic in the army.
He seemed to know something already.
He was peeling back the skin off the head of the walker trying to eat him.
I bet this guy is more then a medic.
Keep your eye on him.
Of course the writers might just be throwing something out there.
You never know on this show.
It doesn't follow the comics.

Could be he is the culprit.
I think we'll be getting more and more of his backstory soon.
He's only been there a month and he was real anxious to "pull his weight"...and Sasha was unsure about his coming out so soon.
I'll be rewatching everything again today. My SO was out and couldn't watch, so we are watching together today.
ETA: Watching for the 3rd time. He's been there a week. Daryl found him out on his own. Still didn't catch his name. (silly me) Looks pretty good for someone who has been living on his own.
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)The creepy woman in the woods was a to throw us off.
The medic dude was standing guard outside the store and was looking at a dead body that was carried out of the store.
He was really looking at the body.
Inside the store he was the one that messed up, making all the noise with the bottles.
Does he have drinking problem also.
Maybe he knows something because he was working in military hospital before or after the walkers.
He was laying in his bunk at the end of the show looking worried.
There is something there.
He was found walking around on his own also.
Looked pretty good for someone on his own.
Just saying.
NewJeffCT
(56,828 posts)I had noticed the new guy seemed to stand outside the department store for a few seconds before being the last one to head in...but, once you put it all together like that, it does seem suspicious.
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)And the last one to go in the store.
I watched the show several times.
Medic dude knows something.
Solly Mack
(90,769 posts)Like he knew the person (recognized the bottom half of uniform/coveralls) or knew what had happened to him.
I agree..there is a 'there' there.
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)That was the first thing I thought when I heard that.
Look at creepy woods woman, or even our people before the farm or the prison.
I bet he knew about that store, maybe been there.
Solly Mack
(90,769 posts)My SO read an article yesterday, an interview with Kirkman, about the premiere.
Kirkman said that we might have already seen elements of the governor's return. Elements we didn't recognize as indicating his reappearance. Maybe the medic? The feeding of walkers with rats?
The disease?
All connected?
The medic's clothing didn't look worn at all. Looked rather new. Like he had access to a store.
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)Our crew were down to eating a can of dog food that Carl found.
The Gov took off, and landed somewhere.
Maybe the medic is from another group we don't know about.
If I had to say who was feeding the rat to the walker I would say it was him.
As of now.
Of course it could be anybody in the new people added.
Lets see if he gets sick.
That might be a clue.
Solly Mack
(90,769 posts)I hope, hope, hope we don't lose one of the primary members during Zombie Harry Potter's rampage.
I'm thinking Sasha is a goner. (sooner or later)
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)Maybe her brother.
I did see a spoiler video of him surrounded by walkers, beating them off.
Solly Mack
(90,769 posts)I like Sasha too but I think of the two Tyreese will survive the longest.
Sasha is the strong one in a lot of ways. Tyreese is feeling the effects of living in such a world and it is beating him down. Recall how he said about her bossing him around and stuff? It was playful but there has always been a subtext of her being better equipped to survive (willing to let the injured woman be left behind(at the prison when they first found it), knows how to shoot, leads groups on runs, a "hard sell" for new people). Tyreese has a temper but he also has a good heart. A tender heart, I think.
Those that survived haven't always been those best equipped to survive. Those that struggle with everything seem to be the ones that survive...those and the truly evil ones. Kinda like what Morgan said to Rick.
Which I think is a major theme throughout the show. How you survive, what you need to do to survive.
Clara, creepy woods lady, brought that more into focus with her, "No coming back from the things you've done".
Rick, toward the end of season 3, also touched on it with the 'We decide as a group, how we live, how we die' speech.
I dunno. Just speculating.
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)I do have PDST, like the people on the show would have.
I have learned to handle it.
It is getting better, of course I don't have walkers trying to eat me either.
You are right, some of us are better at it.
Creepy woods woman never could handle it, Eddie did everything.
Some will make and others won't.
One thing I have learned is how to handle stress.
Sometimes a good cry helps, or take a long walk.
Don't let it built up, find some escape.
That is how you make it.

I'm guessing that'll be new "big bad" this season. A new virus. Possibly a mutated zombie virus. Maybe it's something that is picked up in the water (they were focusing on the water a lot in this episode). Ebola, perhaps? We'll see.

texanwitch
(18,705 posts)There are a lot of wild hogs in Texas.
I wouldn't think you would even need to raise hogs, just of kill a few.
Wild hogs could more then the walkers could handle.
The people on the show will fall into two groups.
Those tough enough to make it and those to soft.
With stress you have to learn to relax some how.
I would make it.
I don't want to live in that world, but I would make it.
PDST would be common, just learn to control it.
I wonder why they haven't tied together some car batteries to the fence with cable jumpers.
I bet even walkers would learn not to touch the fence.
That would help with the walkers.
There are enough cars parked all over the place.
