So untalented that her 'career' would be nonexistent without Autotune? For evidence, watch the video to "Roar". I mean, I can't give you back that those 3+minutes but if you want a good laugh, check it out, lol:

(60,021 posts)Much rather hear the true artist and all of the attributes that people aren't perfect than any application of autotune (autoruin).
Maybe it is a generation thing - when I think back to the live albums from some of my favorite bands, they are pretty rough - but they are real!

(7,570 posts)couldn't carry a tune in the bed of an F-350. You can HEAR through the autotune that the "artist" isn't anywhere near the note they are supposed to be on. They simply can't fucking sing.
The sad truth is that most popular artists today are just heavily marketed fashion models. They are selected for success by recording executives on the basis of their sex appeal.

(26,603 posts)She seems to be extremely skilled at constructing shelter, acquiring food, and domesticating wild creatures...
(Not real fond of that song, however - but at least it's not catchy enough to create a painful earworm.)

(1,805 posts)that's what I tell my husband when he's bitching about some "new" music. I'm just glad we grew up when there was such a sea change in music - a wonderful time of discovery. It's tough to find acts today (men OR women) that can actually play an instrument and/or write music. Much less carry a tune.

(2,431 posts)I don't think anyone will remember Katy Perry enough to hold a grudge against her for that long.

(13,081 posts)And I don't mean defense talent-wise, just as a human being: she posts a lot of pictures of herself without makeup, so that young girls don't think they have to look like that all the time. She wants people to know its fake.

(23,340 posts)She does a send-up of the bombshell image, very tongue-in-cheek, drawing on glamor girl imagery of different eras. I like her visual sense.
as to the Autotune, that is the fad of this musical moment in time. Many are using it.

(29,503 posts)Perry's, OTOH, she's just yelling loud, and leaves it to the production crew to make it fit with melody.
I mean, a lot of people seem to like her, so that's fine. I just feel she's really plastic.

Prominent feminist Naomi Wolf, author of "The Beauty Myth" and one of many who were arrested amid the Occupy Wall Street protests last year, is urging Americans to boycott the singer, labeling her video "a total piece of propaganda for the Marines."
"I really want to find out if she was paid by them for making it," Wolf wrote on her Facebook page. "It is truly shameful... I would suggest a boycott of this singer whom I really liked - if you are as offended as this glorification of violence as I am."

(56,829 posts)people would have been saying the same thing about Madonna and those that came after her.
Some of her lyrics are pretty good for young girls to hear as well -
You don't have to feel like a wasted space
You're original, cannot be replaced
If you only knew what the future holds
After a hurricane comes a rainbow
Maybe you reason why all the doors are closed
So you could open one that leads you to the perfect road
Like a lightning bolt, your heart will glow
And when it's time you'll know
That's from her song "Firework" - I think it's good that's she's saying you don't have to feel down about yourself because bad things have happened to you.
I'm not a big fan of hers, but my daughter likes her (she's in 6th grade). Certainly preferable to her liking Miley Cyrus.

(72,790 posts)She does not have a very good voice I will agree. But she makes cheesy pop songs, which I love.
If you don't like her, fine.
I wouldn't waste my time posting about someone I didn't like, but that is just me.
Off to listen to some KPerry!

(29,503 posts)what works for me mostly doesn't work for others, lol - I posted a thread about Music Box Dancer, an purely instrumental piece from the 70's which was probably 100% forgettable, but since I recall it from my youth, I love listening to it - it kind of makes me feel young again.
So please, listen to all the Katy Perry you want!! In fact, you can have my lifetime dose.
