The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI blame MFM.
I was honored to have a ranch visit from another DUer today. My first in-person meeting of another member. He was most gracious and didn't complain at all as I inflicted a long bumpy drive in a beat-up truck, a short hike, two lost dogs, a pile of dust, and much yammering of my boring life on this most patient individual.
However. My offer of a bowl of ranch beans was brutally rejected! Who could pass up a big bowl of pintos? I blame MFM and all his posts about my beans and their (imaginary to him) "repercussions".
MFM, you have created a completely false impression (legend?) and now people are afraid. It's all your fault!

(55,019 posts)I realize more and more the older I get and longer I live out here, that there is such a dichotomy between urban life and my...uh...rural "habits" - I don't even see the skulls as odd (you should see what is in the freezer) - hell, I don't even "see" them at all, unless I am out and find a new one to bring home. and you can imagine the difference of losing a dog in town? No normal person would shrug and say "oh well, he knows his way home" and drive off. So I apologize for any other weird thing I didn't notice or explain. You learn pretty fast around me to just make yourself comfortable or ask for what you need because I get started yacking and forget any manners I may have once had.
By the second or third visit most people learn to find the fridge and take care of themselves (if they are brave enough to return)

(9,077 posts)and I love beans, not sure what "ranch beans" are, but I'd try them. Too bad you're so far away.

Ranch beans = pintos, usually with a ham bone or some bacon served soupy with tortillas or corn bread.

(9,077 posts)Prefer it with corn bread, both covered with beans and separately slathered with butter. Pintos or Navy beans are equally acceptable. I'm sure they were delicious.
