I tried to get a new Yahoo! account a couple of months ago, and it now requires a phone number to register. I was all like . . . yeah, bite me.

completely without taking a few additional steps after you click "log out" now.

They all are getting so damn intrusive, forcing you to cough up personal info or agree to ridiculous terms to use their "wonderful" services. Never-ending pop-up boxes about this or that. I hate logging into any Google service, sadly now including Youtube.

FB has some running measure of how far I am in completing my "profile," reminding me every time I log on that I have only 40% complete, and when I click that closed they ask for my phone number.

ACK!

I have used Yahoo Mail for years, and in the last year they have forced everyone onto their new mail service which sucks almost beyond description.

I know they all do the same, but I've begun using Outlook for email. Much less intrusive, much less on the demanding of info. At least for now...

I avoid using any other Google service as much as possible. I won't log in to YouTube anymore, and I'm using Startpage for searches. And oh, yeah -- Yahoo mail SUCKS. I have an older computer and Yahoo Mail uses a LOT of memory, so it slows my whole system down.

For a web-based email service, Outlook.com is pretty awesome, so far. Even get free online version of Office.

I have never used Thunderbird, but I do use Firefox almost exclusively.

Yahoo slows my system to a crawl as well. Facebook does that sometimes too. Works fine on other sites, so I don't think it's my pc, although it is an older computer.

I'm all but done with Yahoo, but if you want to export your emails and contact list to a new service, you evidently have to pay to become a Yahoo premium member.

Google Voice has my phone number so it's gonna be a little harder to say bye bye to them. But it will happen.

Market is wide open for a non-intrusive, fast-loading service to come in and siphon users away from the current biggies.

I'd be the first subscriber.

And whoever markets the first cell phone that lets me keep everything private, instead of sucking all the data from my memory and SD card like apps loaded, contacts, calendar, photos, etc, well I'm there!

The only options are giving them the number or "ask me later".

It's time for a big push back from their subscribers.

I have no idea what my college roommate's number is, but I have used her for one e-mail, it's been a few years and I know she married and does not use that name any more. And of course there is the dog's e-mail. People who know me always ask why my e-mail name is holly. ha ha . too much crap out there. I even put bogus information into my computer when I set it up.
