List some good modern POP songs.

I'm not a big music fan of any type. I rarely listen to music by itself but that's not to say I don't have my own tastes. My taste in music is extremely eclectic, everything from classical music (probably my favourite) to world music, pop and rap. I usually only like one or two songs from any one artist or even genre. The only genre I have to say that I don't have any love for is heavy metal and its offshoots. I was listening to some pop song mashups earlier though and got in the mood to listen to some good pop music. I know there isn't a lot of love here for modern pop music and for good reason as most of it is formulic and crap, but there's definitely some good and original stuff buried amongst the junk. Post some of your favourite modern pop songs. By modern I mean anything within the past 5 to 10 years, the more recent the better.

I've come to like Macklemore recently:

2. Cohen's 'Anthem' was written not long after 9/11 so it might not qualify in your time frame

But I can highly recommend anything by him. Leonard Cohen's voice is absolutely mesmerizing, and he doesn't write empty/popcorn stuff. It isn't overly religious but still deeply spiritual in a secular sense. Often there's a strong surreal sense. He took a long hiatus from his earlier, far lighter pop music career to become a Buddhist monk, eventually returning as the man we know today. Women of all ages absolutely adore him, partly because it's so evident that he loves us.

Perhaps 'Halleluejah' would fit the time frame you request.

Even Jeff Buckley's awesome cover is 20 years old now, although it only became a fairly big hit about 5 years ago (11 years after his death). I do agree that Cohen is great, but he's not exactly a modern artist.

(You used to get it in your fishnets....now you only get it in your nightdress)

The Kooks:

(It's not about your makeup or how you try to shape up.)

Rooney:

(I wake up...in all this spit and sweat, this is not normal.)
Also check out:

(I treat you like a princess, but your life is one big mess.)

I'm a huge POP fan...these are my three favorite bands.

Also Fitz and the Tantrums:

for broadening my musical horizons. Long ago I had to face the sad truth in the slogan, "So many books, so little time..."

Same holds true for music. Maybe it has something to do with the population explosion. Too many musicians for me to keep up with. Everything you shared today is totally superior to such juvenile crap as "Friday". I don't think I have a generational bias, so long as the product has quality.

I think they're more Indie than Pop. Some of the songs from their latest album have been hitting the Top 20 on the pop charts, however. Their lead singer reminds me a lot of Paul Simon.

Love their new album. Hard to pin down a genre, but it's brilliant. I've literally listened to it nearly every day the past couple of weeks.
