The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsIt is so cold outside that the ice cream I put on the front porch is stayed frozen.
I am loving my wood burning stove.

(29,414 posts)That's pretty much the same all over town.
No wood-burning anything here. The gas-furnace is fine with me. I keep it pretty warm, though, because air-current circulation in this apartment sucks.

(18,705 posts)I love my stove.
With this winter it is good I have plenty of wood.
I am cooking tomorrow's stew on it right now.
It is stew weather.

(29,414 posts)But I noticed it's at 30F on the Ship Channel. You can look at the "weather station" chart on WU's site for a better idea:

I'm surprised at how high the humidity is, too. I guess that's why I'm not getting shocked much
I'll have to do stew some other time as I have too many other leftover foods still to eat. However, it is good weather for biscotti baking

(18,705 posts)I am not going anywhere.
I did go to Kroger for extra catfood, the place was busy.
I am staying home.

They need heated handles for the trolleys!

(18,705 posts)I have several sets of gloves.
I will loose one set every winter.
I think everyone went to the store tonight because of the weather.
I buy Pet's Pride cat food for the guest animals.

(29,414 posts)My cat passed away one month ago, so I have many cans and a full large unopened bag to donate.

(18,705 posts)Sorry you lost your cat.

(29,414 posts)It was rough the first couple of weeks. I'm no longer 'upset' but do notice his absence. He had a brain tumor and had a massive seizure at the neurology clinic. So, I'm glad he was there for them to take care of him versus me coming home to that kind of thing.
We'll have to get together so I can give you some of the cans. They are the kind without much filler and no grains, so it's mostly meat (some have gravy or a gelatin/fat that makes it a solid mass.) Healthy meals, nonetheless

(60,010 posts)I had a wood burner for about 7 years, it did a great job of drying out the house during damp winters, but I had to keep
a cast iron tea kettle full of water on the stove.
Plus it was nice when the power went out for weeks at a time.

(18,705 posts)My nose dries out if I don't.
I also have two natural gas space heaters, just had them cleaned.
Dearborn space heaters, yes I have a old house.
Power going out will not effect me.

(6,154 posts)This house is better in just about every other way. But damn those wood fires were cozy on cold nights. Loved to sit next to it and stoke it and feed it for hours.
texanwitch
(18,705 posts)My stove is not that huge.
One big log or two smaller logs are just fine.
The fire will burn all night.
All the animals are sleeping around it.
I have to kick them out for potty breaks.
