I got a phone call on my cell phone today, promising money if I would confirm my identity.

So I did reveal the requested details.

And they were right. How does this happen???? Whenever I call them, it takes 10 minutes just to id myself.

I had to close that account and open up another.

The merchant was a UK website.

that there was fraudulent activity on my debit card. Fortunately, it was a very small amount. But it was a pain in the butt to have cancel the card and get another. I did some detective work and know where the fraudulent charge came from. My brother was in prison in Florida and I sent him some food from the prison store and someone got my debit card number and charged $7 at another website.

Many here do not like BoA, but they do keep tabs on their customers' accounts and when they detect suspicious activity, you are notified immediately.

They build up a statistical / mathematical profile of each person and check every transaction against said profile to see if it matches. These algorithms are pretty good at flagging unusual activity.

I had a flurry of small charges on my card

Every charge was mine, I'm glad to say (or unfortunately)

Your post would explain how they track these things down-- I didn't realize they went to those lengths

If I didn't have my Social Security, I would be living out of my car and eating cat food.

THANK YOU, FDR!!

I have to say, that photo of the dam gives me chills. Its immensity is staggering.
There isn't an official name for being "dam phobic," but there ought to be.

I ran with it for a bit the last time I got this one.

So I asked him. "Oh, ok so what's my IP address".

Moment of silence.

"No, sir, you have a virus on your PC"

"Which PC, I have a couple of them here. If you know I have a virus on one of them you must know its IP address"

More silence. "you have a virus on your Windows PC"

Can't remember what I said after this but I think they hung up not long after
