(7,720 posts)That $1 billion estimate was if there was no winner tonight AND for Friday's drawing. If they estimate 70% of the combinations will be sold for tonight, I would guess that 90% will be sold on Friday. The odds are pretty good that the numbers will be drawn tonight. I would guess there will be 2 or 3 winning tickets.

(14,910 posts)I went in for $2 on a few lottery pools, and purchased $3 worth with change from a coffee purchase this morning.
It is what it is.
That kind of money is life-changing.
That type of money is generational.
The amount of good that can be done at the not-for-profit level is game-changing.
A lot of good can come of that money in the right hands.
Good luck to those who put a few dollars in at a chance to change lives...

(7,720 posts)a jackpot with an after tax winning of something between 10 and 20 million. That is life and generational changing without the pressure of hundreds of millions of dollars.
I used to work for a PR firm that did a lot of work with a state lottery. What I learned is that the big money doesn't change people so much as it magnifies their existing personality traits. If someone is basically a good person, they will become a better person. If someone is basically a bad person, they will become even worse.
If I ever did win a substantial amount of money, I'd set up some sort of charitable foundation and have it overseen by a law firm. Whenever anyone asked for money, I'd tell them to contact the foundation. Of course, this would not apply to close friends and family members.
