(22,239 posts)j/k...I actually think the HoF is a big joke. Yes certainly belongs there (and the earlier stuff by Hall and Oates was pretty good).

(50,566 posts)I'm glad Peter Gabriel got in, though.
Mike Daniels
(5,842 posts)since he bailed on the one inducting Genesis and he did confirm he would make it this time around.
I can accept the "rehearsing for a tour" reason he gave for not attending the Genesis induction although that would have taken at most a couple days off his schedule.
That said, I think the real reason is that Gabriel probably assumed (rightly?) that it was really the non-prog Collins-Banks-Rutherford era version of Genesis that was actually being inducted and Hackett and Gabriel were strictly being included as former members.

(15,334 posts)she does have a fantastic voice, and she owned that Warren Zevon song "Poor, Poor, Pitiful Me".
But not Deep Purple? Heck, how many current rock guitarist learned the Smoke On the Water riff as their first piece of music?
And Ian Gillan? Damn dude played Jesus! What a voice he had.

(30,947 posts)I love Deep Purple. I went to their concert in the '70s at Pirates' World in Dania, Florida. They were awesome and had the best light show ever.

(56,828 posts)but, "Smoke on the Water" is still a well known song that still gets played on rock radio stations. Does anybody even remember any of Kiss' music? It's more - "those were the guys in face paint" But, does Kiss get played on the air any more on rock type stations?

If anyone can tell me what Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys, Chet Atkins, and Brenda Lee - all COUNTRY artists - are doing in the ROCK hall of fame, we can then talk about the merits of particular rock bands' presence in the ROCK hall.
