The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsThis man clearly needs a few more drums.
This is what happens when you turn the drums into a melodic as well as a percussive pursuit, and you're good enough at it that when you auditioned for Frank Zappa's band, the two remaining hopefuls in the audition room just walked out when Mr. Bozzio was done.
Those of you who consider this just a bunch of wankery are welcome to do so. I think it's drumming at a level only surpassed by a very small number of stickmen, such as Buddy Rich perhaps. Bill Bruford is also in this company. Mike Portnoy is also up there. Neil Peart, not so much because he has a highly robotic and predictable style, even if he is proficient and fast.

(8,601 posts)I think that's about the only thing you don't see many of in this epic kit. It has a couple of wood blocks, though, as well as all kinds of other doo-dads.

Thankfully I was still up playing my drums!
Great OP, thanks for sharing...

(8,601 posts)I even like Neal Peart, against so many on DU and their hatred of Rush for their "libertarian" bent (which is greatly exaggerated).
Only problem with Neal is that his playing is quick as hell which is nice, but his patterns are very predictable to my ears and his solos have way too much "sameness" to them even though I think they're amazing on their face.
