At our new North Raleigh store - my wife and I went for our weekly meet up there last night for the Engine 2 challenge - they had a huge display of countless rose bouquets in the front of the store staffed by lots of people and observed a non-stop stream of men with their bouquets in hand!
I'm not putting a "wrong or right" spin on this....but...whoa! Highest number of flower buying males ever seen in one place! (should have taken a pic....). I guess it is an example of timely, clever marketing!

(102,292 posts)felt very uncomfortable...All these guys frantically trying to do what is "expected" of them by some holiday specifically designed to sell greeting cards... I know I don't like to be manipulated and I feel even worse to see so many among our population experiencing the same...
I also think of all the many single people--some who may feel quite lonely on a good day. On top of everything else, this is just one more little societal message to suggest they don't have much value....
For those that just love the holiday--well fine for you. But, personally, I think it is becoming more and more a commercial sham.

(2,015 posts)Everyone knows that a simple bouquet of flowers or a nice meal with someone you love won't do. Don't they know they have to send a big showey flower arrangement with a couple of mylar balloons attatched to her work place so EVERYONE knows that you are in love and are much better than the single people with no showey flower arrangements and balloons at their desks?
