i figured people up north would get a kick out of these. this is my front and backyard after the "blizzard" of 2014 in austin texas. schoools including the univeristy of texas as well as all city offices closed. about a 1/4" of sleet/snow and a bit of ice on the road..
a little different than what it took to close schools when i lived in chicago or madison wisconsin

(32,064 posts)all we have is sleet in Houston and everything is closed. Honestly with the way many of these folks drive I think it is just as well. They have a hard enough time when it's dry and sunny ...

I told him to find the dingiest looking shack with a line of people down the block and that was the place to get great BBQ.

(14,910 posts)I love the low-impact style.
Was there a run on snow shovels prior to the storm?

(90,771 posts)Roads remained clear, as did the sidewalks. Still, schools closed.
My dogs loved it.
Me, not so much.

(18,705 posts)The freeway overpasses were iced over.
Cars were stuck for hours on them. We had rain and it froze. I stayed home.

(17,045 posts)I had to. Mopac was at a crawl at 7:00 am. I made it though!
Looks like we may see some more of this "weather" starting next week!

(18,705 posts)I had to salt down a path on my porch to get out of the house. Every thing was covered in ice. A car was spinning its wheels on the street in front of the house. I wasn't going anywheres. It was bad.

(17,045 posts)but we Texans really do not know how to drive in this weather.
I'm glad you are safe! This mornings commute was a bit scary!
Keep warm! AND safe!!!

(18,705 posts)People had a hard time even walking on the freeways. The people who did try to go to work were stuck on the freeways due to wreaks. I do not think most of them got to work. I do not like driving on ice.
