The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI just realized I've seen 13 films in the theatre in the first 7 weeks of 2012
War Horse
Tin Tin
Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy
The Artist
The Grey
Chronicle
Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close
Pentacost (Short Film)
Raju (Short Film)
The Shore (Short Film)
Time Freak (Short Film)
Tuba Atlantic (Short Film)
Safe House
Of course the short films I saw all at once, so I guess I can at least say I haven't gone out SEPERATELY 13 different times, just 9...

(13,447 posts)Highly reccomend them. And all of them, but Raju, had a good bit of humor in them.

(6,581 posts)The last movie I went to was Michael Moore's 'Fahrenheit 9-11" on the 4th of July in 2004. Prior to that, the last movie I saw in a theater was 'Twister' in 1996.
I quit going to the movies because of several factors: 1) they put the volume up SO high its physically painful to me; 2) people tend to be rude and inconsiderate, talking, running around, etc. during films, especially letting their children run amok; 3) the price is pretty steep; and 4) frankly, Hollywood puts out mostly junk, although there are certainly some jewels among all of the stones.

(13,447 posts)Usually I hold off until the blockbusters come out in the summer, see 3 or 4 of them, and then see a couple of the "Oscar bait" dramas in the fall. It's just too damn expensive to go to the movies anymore. $10.50 tickets and then if you want popcorn and a drink, that's another $10.
In October, however, I became friends with a couple people who run a movie club out of Meetup.com. On Tuesdays, the local movie chain has $6 movie nights if you sign up for their membership card. So we all just go on Tuesdays, pay the cheaper ticket and skip out on the popcorn. Of the 13, only the shorts, the Grey, and Chronicle were seen on the weekend with the more expensive ticket.
Also, because we go on Tuesday, you miss out on the loud obnoxious crowds. Not surprisingly, it was only when I saw Chronicle on a Saturday that I got stuck next to a woman who texted during the whole movie.

(5,260 posts)With an abundance of patience, I can wait for the DVD release and Netflix availability. In the interim, there's the roller coaster ride of watching paint dry.

(2,682 posts)We go almost every Sunday to the movies. Sometimes just one, but on occasion, if it's an indie movie that will only be in town for a day or so, we will go to two. We've been doing this for a few years now. I haven't counted up the number of movies this year, but it's quite a few already.
