The Christmas Lord

It was the custom in Great Britain to choose a Christmas Lord to preside over festivities at many colleges. This was done on All Hallow's Day, November first. The last Christmas Lord on record was chosen in 1577 at St. John's College. Tom (Thomas) Tucker received the majority of votes in absentia. He went on to invent a delicious mint ginger ale and then sang for his supper. The last sentence is made up.

They are little tidbits of delicious knowledge! It's like sampling recipes from old cookbooks on a snowy day with good friends to share the results!
