Documentary on Rock and Roll

Hello!

I teach a "Humanities through the fine arts" course at a community college. In several weeks we will discuss music. I dont show any videos, but I think having one would help break the monotony in the class. I want to show a documentary on rock and roll and the cultural values behind it. However, I dont know of any. Can you recommend something that shows 1. what rock and roll represented and 2. why it was such a big deal culturally?

Thanks for your time. Cheers.

The Decline of Western Civilization

at a minimum.

There is a third but I've never seen it..

Damn I almost forgot: It Might Get Loud
which is a documentary on the history of the electric guitar - paying special attention to Jimmy Page, The Edge and Jack White

OH, and your class is no fun at all if you don't show This Is Spinal Tap.

Lord, how could humanities through the fine arts be monotonous? Forget the videos; bring in a band and ask! And WHY is your question in the past tense? LOL! Rock and Roll is here to stay; it will never die!

Another possibility is Hail Hail Rock and Roll, about Chuck Berry. A lot of the greats are interviewed about his influence.

A great little movie is...oh hell, what was that movie about the kid who covered Woodstock for Rolling Stone?

OR Pirate Radio. So many are little slices of a big culture.

Discuss perceptions of Rock and Roll in youth culture in the early days and the stereotypes from then and up until now.

This is a classic movie and should be found on many Classic Movie sites on the
Internet for free viewing.
