The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsIt's official - Queen is no longer my 2nd favorite band
I forgave them for Paul Rodgers because I knew the guy had talent and was always a big Paul Rodgers fan. I just always thought that if Queen wanted to do concerts well then Brian May and Roger Taylor could do the singing since they sang many of the songs on the Queen albums (at least a fifth of the Queen songs were song by someone else in the band other than Freddie Mercury.
But really, Adam Lambert? Why not just piss on Freddie Mercury's grave. Lambert is not worthy of being a Freddie Mercury replacement. It was one thing to bring someone like Paul Rodgers in to front he band because Paul brought his own unique singing style to the band. But geez, using Lambert is the equivalent of finding someone who fronts a Queen tribute band and letting them sing (and yes, I'm pissed that Yes did that to Jon Anderson - that dropped Yes down on my top 10 favorites list too! Oh and I'm excited to have tickets to see a Jon Anderson acoustic show at the Queen in Wilmington!).
It use to be my top 5 favorite bands were as followed:
1) Led Zeppelin
2) Queen
3) Yes
4) Pink Floyd
5) Electric Light Orchestra
As of February 21st 2011 my top 5 favorite bandsSingers are as followed:

(6,676 posts)and can he at least pull off freddie
LynneSin
(95,337 posts)Everyone hyped him as the second coming in music. Even got a cover of Rolling Stone magazine before officially releasing any album. But honestly, I couldn't name you one song he's done.
I would rather Queen NOT try to replace Freddie Mercury - you can't. He's an original and God broke the model after creating him. Instead have several people sing lead to honor Freddie Mercury like they have done in the past. From what I've read it looks like a one-off concert so if it's a fundraiser I'm sure many muscians would be happy to fill in for lead vocals - they would honor Mercury without trying to be Mercury.

(6,676 posts)i was never fond of paul rodgers replacing him either. i still have trouble with others doing free bird (the band did it right on the tour right after the death of ronnie van zandt.)
btw, i was shocked at the cost of seeing roger waters at fenway park. tix are going for $225 regular cost.

(21,020 posts)Led Zeppelin fan here...they are #1 on my list as well.
After that...well, I'm not so sure. I suppose a whole lot of other bands would share spot #2, as I like them pretty much equally.
But Zepp...they are #1.

(95,337 posts)LZ-Queen-Yes-PF. I don't think that has changed since I was 12 years old and ditched Shaun Cassidy for Rock. In fact 6-7 were pretty steady for a long time with Bowie-ELO (now both in the top 10).
The official top 10 list is as followed:
- Led Zeppelin
- Pink Floyd
- David Bowie
- Electric Light Orchestra
- Green Day
- U2
- Rush
- King Crimson
- Talking Heads (just moved into the TOP 10 list)
- Bruce Springsteen (also just moved into the Top 10 list)

(95,337 posts)"News to the World" was really a good album but "Jazz" was the first album where you could see the band was looking for a decent motorcycle so they could take up shark jumping, which happened with 'The Game'.
Not sure if you recall but all the Queen albums thru "Jazz" would each have a comment that no synthesizers were used in the making the album.
Although I was pissed about the Paul Rodgers at first, I finally did listen to the album one time and saw that they didn't want Rodgers to be Freddie Mercury but instead they teamed up to play music from both the Queen and Rodgers archives. Several of Rodgers biggest hits (from the various bands he was a part of) were performed and some of the bigger Taylor/May sung Queen songs were done (like "Death on Two Legs" and "39" . Of course they did a few Mercury sung songs but Rodgers did his own versions of them instead of trying to be like Mercury. Lambert won't do that since his biggest stchick was that he was a Freddie Mercury wannabe.

(10,624 posts)He's being replaced with the lead singer from Glass Hammer - essentially another clone, although Glass Hammer is a worthwhile band if you like progressive rock and you aren't obsessive about originality.
If you don't have any Porcupine Tree, you should give them a try. I can't imagine you not liking them based on your top-ten list.
My favorites:
1. Yes
2. Radiohead
3. Beatles
4. Genesis
Runner-ups: Asia, Boston, the Clash, the Police, the Who, Led Zeppelin, Marillion, U2, R.E.M.,and some other band I can't think of right now.

(95,337 posts)Probably the next 5 would include those 2 along with Pearl Jam, Jethro Tull and Moody Blues.
Genesis would be up there if it was just the older stuff same with Rolling Stones. I was just never a fan of the Beatles. I like their music and I think they would be in the top 25
