I hate rubrics for grading.

Especially for papers. They sap the creativity out of writing them and turn them into a nuts-and-bolts kind of thing.

A word of advice for those of you who may be considering online classes for your college education. They are often more challenging than taking classes on campus, and they usually require more reading and writing. And you will probably run across grading rubrics more often, which may make the teacher's job easier, but, for me, take any joy out of writing scholarly papers. I'm saying this as someone who really likes to write.
