I remember when watching commercials was payment for free T.V.
Hell, I was pissed when there was a Pepsi add disguised as a trailer on my Betamax copy of Top Gun.
So why are people lining up to pay $16 for a two hour Fiat commercial in 3-D?
It's a big damn lizard that breaks stuff and (spoiler alert) dies at the end!
Screw it!
If your that big a rube, you deserve to be took.
Enjoy your C G car commercial, dumb ass.

(1,756 posts)Because the only previews I have seen have been Fiat commercials. Short of the legacy, I know nothing of this film except its choice of automobiles. Rowar!!
And by the way, Spider-Man is at your local post office, for a limited time.
Better hurry......

(63,213 posts)Maybe I'm in the minority, but I don't find product placement to be a big deal, especially if it mirrors reality. As I glance around the office, I see "product placement" everywhere: Joe has McDonalds' on his desk, Tom has a Steelers jersey hanging on his coat hook, Ellie has a Starbucks cup, and Rebecca has an iPhone.
Since advertisements are ubuiquitous in the real world, it wouldn't make sense to omit them from a fictionalized portrayal of the real world. And unless conspicuous product placement interferes with the flow of the story, then it becomes part of the background. No big deal IMO.
Of course, if I need a car that can withstand a 330-foot lizard stomping on it, I'm going to go with Fiat.

(50,557 posts)The only time I really remember seeing an identifiable car, it was a Subaru. And that was at the beginning of the movie.
Once you got past the opening few minutes, the movie was more of a long-form Navy recruiting ad.
Spoiler alert: He got up and swam away.
