update on my job application

I was hoping to get picked up per diem at a 2nd and 3rd hospital so I could quit the customer service job once and for all. I was advised to contact our lab manager when she returns from a few days off to schedule my training at our "sister" hospital, so that gives me the 2nd hospital I will need.

I had written a couple weeks ago that the lab manager at the 3rd hospital was supposed to call me with status, but never did and didn't return my call to her.

In the meantime, I read in the local paper that the 3rd hospital is going through severe cutbacks after several years operating in the red. They're dumping 2 departments completely and cutting back in other areas.

I learned that a coworker with a couple decades experience was rejected by them for one of the full time jobs. I'm not sure when she applied, but I overheard her saying that the status in her application says, "Not Qualified."

So I checked my application status this weekend. It still says "In Review."

So I'm thinking that everything is on hold while they wait to see the fallout of the hospital cuts, and how that effects the lab business.

My fingers are crossed, but I'm not overly hopeful. It's not lost on me that if I go down to the 2nd hospital, then somebody from there will be coming back to the 2nd hospital. So I may just be trading a longer commute for a shorter one. Time will tell.
