Lazy Lawrence is a metonym for a sluggard, a kind of imaginary saint whose influence produces indolence, as in "I've got a touch of the old Lawrence today". Supposedly from a story book entitled "The Infamous History of Sir Lazy Lawrence", but this remains unverified as no remaining imprints of the volume exist.
