Please think good thoughts for my little rescue kitten Katie, her URI is back...

She had it really bad when I found her at 4 weeks...she's now about 10 weeks...she had a corneal ulcer which we were able to heal, and her eye was saved, now the URI is back which isn't good so she's back on antibiotics. She also has a little ulcer on her tongue, probably related to the URI. I didn't have them check for feline AIDS or leukemia today because I didn't want to know until we see if the meds help...poor little thing...but she's fearless and is a very affectionate, so she clealry wants to stick around...thanks.

I hate that she has mainly been ill thus far in her short life...usually not too bad and she's up and getting into trouble...hopefully this will be gone and she'll be back to tormenting the others...and me!

Have you tried giving Katie Lysine chews or paste? It boosts their immune system specifically against recurring URIs. One of our cats has the rhino virus and used to break out in hives and get URIs at any sign of stress. Since he's been on Lysine, his outbreaks have been cut back by 90%. He still gets the occasional cold, like after a vet visit, but it's now once a year instead of once a month.

Plus, more of a selection at amazon. The ones made by Vetri Science seem to work the best, as does the paste by Viralys. I use the paste in a syringe when our cat has a finicky period or ulcers in his mouth.

I've been following your kitten adventures for a while now, and it's always a joy to see when your babies do well, so hopefully we'll get good news from you and Katie soon

This year's kittens have been tough...not as many and all had problems so I assume the rest from their litters didn't make it...there are some Moms I've been trying to trap for years and getting them fixed so the cycle stopped, but some just refuse to go into the traps...the stinkers!

I would love to get this engaged in cat rescue, but I can't imagine the cost and heartbreak involved. Let alone becoming a failed foster with each kitten I found. We'd have 50 cats instead of 5.

All the kittens I've rescued have had it...the area where they come from is enclosed underground caves...the Moms give birth there because it's safe, but because its enclosed the URI spreads like widlfire among all the litters...Katie's had the worst of all, though.

She's doing better this morning, not as stuffed up, and once went on a mad tear through the living room, from sofa to sofa, so she has more energy. Last night she ate dry, didn't want the wet. At times there was blood coming out of her nose with the junk, which wasn't there this morning, so looks like that was just like what happens with humans when your nose is stuffed for so long and you're sneezing, you irritae the inside and it bleeds, not from deeper down. She also ate a little wet this morning. The other cats sort of avoid her because they know something's up...so I sit and hug her as much as I can...they were more curious about her this morning...they do so much with smell that I think the other cats didn't know who she was because she smelled different for a while.
