(47,675 posts)Seriously though, I like the flip phones for exactly that reason. You don't have to key-lock them and they don't automatically key-lock. They're also smaller and fit in a front pocket.

(29,414 posts)is that I just read recently that they not only outsell smart phones worldwide by a 4 to 1 ratio, but the sale of one is also more profitable to the makers than with smart phones.
I own a Kyocera Loft (basically a Crackberry-Lite) and it was only fifty bucks. It does everything I need in a phone, i.e., phonecalls, text and sometimes email. You can surf the web with it, but it doesn't really display images well, so it's really only good for textual information. Again, I don't need anything more.
And that's the thing for anyone looking at new phones. What do you really need, versus what you don't mind paying for that you may never use?

(29,414 posts)It lasted nine years. I'd probably still be using it if my carrier supported it anymore. They're tough phones

(47,675 posts)I know what you mean. The only reason I got a new phone was because the Motorola had a stupid-ass charger connector that finally shit the bed in the "connection" department. The knew ones are all micro-USB. I bitched for YEARS about needing different chargers. I guess somebody heard me and FINALLY made one standard.

(41,694 posts)It makes calls, it receives calls. why would I want anything else? I don't watch TV or internet surf on my home phone, so why should I do it elsewhere. And it only costs me about $10/mo.
It's worked anywhere in the country I've been and compared to smartphones has far fewer dropped calls.
