My wife passed out a few hours ago. The middle one is chatting with a guy in Europe and the youngest just got back from a field trip to DC. I dropped her off before 6 this morning and just picked her up. I'm having a drink and passing out soon myself.

It'll have to be snacks, because I can barely move at the moment (sciatica.) I've been putting off just getting up to microwave my heat-pack

If this hadn't of flared up, I would have cooked a half-recipe of my father's chili using the gardein-brand of "beef" tips

pretty good eats! I think there are some peanut butter cookies left from yesterday, but we didn't really have a desert.

A pork loin stuffed with something or other, green beans tossed in extra virgin olive oil, broccoli with some very light white cheese concoction, some type of scalloped potato casserole, and homemade chunky apple sauce with Vietnamese cinnamon. A light single malt scotch before dinner. Pinot grigio with dinner. Limoncello as an after dinner aperitif (this was a particularly nice touch). For dessert there was this utterly amazing dark chocolate cakey fudgey thing with fresh strawberries.

I don't know if any of these dishes have names - the lady of the house apparently just whips this sort of stuff up all the time, and considers it to be home cooking. She and her husband are of Italian descent, but from different regions; her family is from the south, his is from the north. Suffice it to say that the man of the house is a well nourished gent who is carrying around a few extra pounds. And it is easy to understand why.

It was a great meal.
