Lincolnshire cat could be world's oldest (BBC)

17 July 2014 Last updated at 02:55 BST

Two pet owners in Lincolnshire are vying for the title of world's oldest cat.

When the oldest puss in the world, Poppy, died in at the age of 24, Amanda Gray came forward and revealed her feline friend Maddie was also 24.

But she faces a challenger to the crown in Pinky - who is 28-years-old - and her owner has documentary proof.

I should buy some eggs for my fussy kitty. Believe it or not, in desperation, I steam cooked a salmon filet, chopped it up and drizzled a bit of olive oil over it and kitty took two bites and resumed her lurking/staring at me in want of the perfect meal.

It's an every day battle. For a solid 12 years she happily ate her dry food. Then, because I am an idiot, I bought her some cans of wet. store brand food. She stopped eating dry food after that and now, she's gotten pickier and pickier about canned food. First, she rejected the store brand. Then she began to reject certain flavors of name brand. She flat-out won't eat canned tuna. The only flavors she will somewhat consistently eat are turkey and occasionally, chicken. She hates shreds and for a while liked flaked but now she's all about pate types. When she decides that no cat food will suit her, I serve her canned-cooked chicken mixed with finely chopped cranberries and olive oil.

And of course, I have to feed her small portions because she tends to eat too fast and throws up.

Sometimes I can get her to drink a little milk before I feed her food and that helps her tummy. I keep a dish of fresh cat grass, which she loves to nibble on. As for giving her acidophilus, she just stares at me when I try to grind it up and hide it in her food and unflavored yogurt is right out.

I realize that she's old (16) and she could have way worse problems than this but still, sometimes I truly believe she's just messing with me because I noticed that she comes running when I turn on the microwave. I've experimented with this and have taken her food straight out of the fridge, put some on her dish, set the microwave to 6 seconds and she comes running straight to her food mat and gobbles up that cold food.

She wants me to go to extremes in order to feed her. I just know it.

So, anyway...I've gotten out of the habit of buying eggs and I forgot that, on occasion, she likes a raw egg.

Sigh. Sorry to hijack but I needed to vent.

England could be slightly different from in other countries, so that cats there have
a longer life span?

Biology isn't my strong suit. If it's yours, please chime in.
